Many 19-year-olds have no idea which direction they'd like to take in life. They change their minds constantly, and aren't even certain of who they are, let alone what they want to do for the rest of their lives.
Not so for Manda Hill. A budding artist from Midland, Hill has been playing the guitar for more than four years, and, as she said, singing since she was a baby.
Hill graduated from Midland High School in 2007, and has since released two CDs. Her debut album, "Tied Up in Life," took off and enabled her to start doing live shows. She released her sophomore album, "Lonely Summer," in March and has been performing since.
Hill said her first album was calm and "more laid back." This second release however, is different.
"I sat all summer and just wrote," Hill said. "I wrote about friends, breakups, boys, y'know, all the different things I went through."
Musically, this second album is a bit edgier, and is "in your face" according to Hill. "It shows more of a stronger side of me, like, 'I got over you, I moved on.'"
Hill is the only person on her CDs, along with her acoustic/electric guitar, "Pocahontas." She has played in Midland and Lubbock, and along with Amarillo, has other venues coming up.
Vanessa Price, owner of Butler's, is excited to have Hill, despite her age. "She has an amazing voice ... a cross between Jewel and Alanis Morissette. We were lucky to get her," Price said. "The mature audience that comes here will appreciate her music." - Hollie Narwokie- Globe news correspondent

Bio
19 year old Manda Hill, grew up singing. She was sort of like a little baby Bob Dylan; taking songs and making them into her own. Hill is a self taught guitarist, & writes all of her own lyrics & music. She began writing at a young age but never really shared them till her junior year in high school when her debut cd, "Tied Up In Life" was released in March of 2006. Since then she has released a full production album titled, "Lonely Summer". Since her debut cd her lyrics have matured as well as her person.
If you were to see her perform live she isn't alone, she is backed up by her trusty acoustic guitar named "Pocahontas". Don't be fooled into letting the two bore you. They deliver themselves with energy, & emotion that will give you chills. Want more? go to www.myspace.com/tiedupinlife
