"New Kindie Music Roundup and a Big CD Giveaway!"

Mama Mac is the most recent addition to our music library, and I gotta say she’s perfect for rainy day indoor dance parties.. The songs are eclectic and cheerful and incredibly singable. Mama Mac’s songs are active, encourage creative movement and will be a hit for boys and girls alike. Just a neat assortment of tunes from a woman who was a Lilith Fair finalist. -- Wendy Stetson, - www.babiesgottahaveit.com

"Who's Your Mama?"

I thought I knew what to expect when I saw the cover art on Mama Mac's self-titled kids' CD: I was sure there would be an acoustic version of Kumbaya and maybe a few 70's folk songs.

Boy, was I wrong.

A veteran of the LA indie music scene, Amy Elkins, aka Mama Mac, can take a toddler-friendly song like Rocket Ship and turn it into a rocking tune that makes me want to sing along, much to my children's chagrin.

I know why my kids adore listening to Mama Mac sing: She encourages them to jump around a room, roar like a bear and make pretend chocolate chip cookies, all with a kicking voice -- how could they resist? Her music is sometimes cutesy and sweet but always fun and full of energy. With the rich backup of a full band including Amy's husband, Mike, the music ranges from reggae to country, rock and more. And like many things I remember about toddlers, it offers many unexpected, delightful treats. -Christina

Bio

Amy and Mike Elkins are the creators of Mama Mac. A veteran of the Los Angeles indie music scene, Amy is a gifted singer/songwriter whose catchy tunes and silky smooth vocals are a delight for any listener. Mike honed his vocal chops as a member of the University of Pennsylvania Glee Club where he also developed a natural talent for arranging songs. Amy and Mike have three wonderful children who are their greatest inspiration.
Together with grammy-nominated producer Tim Sonnefeld of Milkboy Recording, Amy & Mike have created an album that radiates with memorable hooks and stellar musicianship. From the opening number “Bongo Baby,” to the final tune, “Growing Up,” Mama Mac takes us on a rollicking journey spanning many musical styles – Caribbean, rock n’ roll, country, folk and pop, and sparks our imagination with a creative range of lovable characters and colorful experiences.
The name "Mama Mac" was inspired by Amy's volunteer role as the Macaroni Monday Mom at her children's preschool. After Amy cooked the pasta and delivered it to the classes, she took out a guitar and played some of her songs for the students. They were an instant hit with the children and Amy soon became known around school as Mama Mac.
