"Lulu Belle Rockeuse Anglaise"

Lulu please hushed up marry me? (C'est au cas où elle lise ces lignes)
- Les 100 ciels

"Live Review, Macbeth May 2008"

The night, though, belonged to Lynch Rider Lulu, showcasing their debut album, Who’s Gonna Live There Now? The intimate setting of the Macbeth, with its suitably ambient decor, provided an ideal environment for their distinct sound. A bass-less three-piece led by the deceptively delicate voice of Lucy Underhill, they blend brooding lo-fi twin guitars, melodies that can explode when you least expect them to and lyrics that swoop from the achingly tender (It’s You) to the macabre (Lady Betty, recounting the tale of a notorious 18th century hangwoman). The line-up was augmented for a couple of numbers by a guest bassist, but just as a trio they produced a remarkable, atmospheric set. Believe me, they’re well worth checking out. - Amelia's Magazine

"Live Review, Luminaire 2007"

Lynch Rider Lulu are a low slung indie rock outfit in the vein of Pavement, Slint and Smog; all moody guitar scrawls and smoky atmospherics. Frontwoman Lucy Underhill cuts an enigmatic figure, cruising through impressive sounding songs like Smoke & Mirrors and Was the Killer:delivering her vocals with a mixture of cool detachment and searing conviction. An atmospheric and darkly rocking performance, Lynch Rider Lulu promise very impressive things for the future." - Wild Stag

LUCY9MM BIOGRAPHY

Grunge-pop trio Lucy9mm are united by their love of dirty great rifs, off-kilter rhythms, twisted stories and their collections of car steering wheels. Their music takes in a broad spectrum of influences, from skewed hip-hop to alternative rock'n'roll & blues.
Lyrically the songs tell the stories of a cavalcade of characters, from reflective aging film stars to escaped hospital patients, notorious 19th century serial killers and renowned stunt men.

Songwriter/vocalist/guitarist Lucy9mm grew up in Somerset & Dorset, where the band are now based, the daughter of radical hippy parents aiming to live a life of self-sufficiency with vegetable patches, beehives, chickens and an annual folk festival taking place in the garden. Originally a saxophonist and keyboard player, Lucy cut her musical teeth at the age of 14 touring pubs and working men’s clubs along the south coast playing in a covers band and later in a Zeppelin & Zappa inspired prog band.
She moved to London at the age of 18, to study film music and pursue a life or rock and roll, at one point securing an audition to to play keyboards in Blur; which fell flat when she said her goodbyes to the band and promptly walked into a broom cupboard.
Lyrics have always been as important to her as melodies and sentiment, inspired by the narrative songwriting of Tom Waits and Nick Cave and also by the social commentary of the 1930s poets, inparticular Scottish poet Louis Macneice. Her other core influence has always been heavy rock'n'roll, from Black Sabbath to Fugazi and Sonic Youth.

Lucy9mm's guitarist, Si Garner, grew up in Kent, a self-confessed metal-head as a teenager, who moved to London to pursue a career in psychology. Si and Lucy met on a kind of musical blind date, arranged by friends from electro-punk outfit The Infadels, who thought the pair would hit it off. The duo soon recruited a drummer but this came to a dramatic end when he fell off the top of a mountain when climbing and moved to the USA to become a scientist.
Current drummer Che stepped in at this point, inspired for a new project now that noise-scape alt-rock band Bikini Atoll (Bella Union), of which he’d been a quarter, had disbanded. Che had spent his earliest years in a hippy commune in Germany with his prog-rocker family before moving to England. His first months in the UK were spent living with members of the Sex Pistols in a house-share in Alperton - the same house where ‘The Great Rock’n’Roll Swindle’ was later filmed. His passion for hitting things was inevitable.

Lucy9mm recorded their first album 'Who's Gonna Live There Now?' under the name of Lynch Rider Lulu. It was recorded in 2008 in a haunted barn in the Wiltshire countryside, assisted by bass-player Joe Gideon, erstwhile frontman of 'Bikini Atoll' (Bella Union) and more recently 'Joe Gideon & the Shark' (Bronzerat), and engineer Justin Underhill (whose credits include Bloc Party, Absentee, Sleater Kinney & Klaxons).

Lucy9mm are currently mixing their new album which was recorded on the coast just outside San Francisco. They will be releasing a couple of EPs at the start of 2011, to coincide with a tour of venues throughout the UK. They are also planning a return tour to the USA, to follow up on the great reaction to shows played there last year.
