When Ray Cantelmo began working with Lorae Tavares, he realized he had a real talent on his hands.
This Sunday, the song "Back To Summertime" will be released on iTunes. It is the debut single from the 15-year-old New Bedford singer. It will soon be followed by a music video that will be available on YouTube and Facebook.
When Lorae won the Magic of Music Idol contest in April 2010, the grand prize was the opportunity to record a song with Grand Arson Entertainment, based in Swansea. But when Cantelmo, the company's president, saw and heard Lorae, he wanted to expand the project from a song to an album.
"She's got the complete package," Cantelmo says of the young entertainer. "She can sing and dance, and she's got a great look. She can perform in the studio and on stage.
"I think she can be a big-time artist and make some noise. We have national ambitions for her."
"Back To Summertime" is an up-tempo number that Cantelmo describes as pop and R&B, similar to the music of JoJo with a touch of Mariah Carey. Cantelmo has plans to release a follow-up song, "Song My Piano Plays," which is a ballad. The video for "Back To Summertime" is scheduled for release in mid-November.
"Back To Summertime" is a combination of music from Grand Arson vice-president Brady Reed with the lyrics of Jillian Jensen, a former member of the local group Varsity Girls.
The singer is the granddaughter of Tiny Tavares, a member of the band Tavares, a Grammy Award-winning band based in New Bedford.
"I'd like to follow in my grandfather's footsteps," the teen says. "I feel like I'm getting closer to my dream. I've been singing since I could talk and performing on stage for a long time, but this is a really different expreience. It's challenging, but I'm getting better at it.
"I'm lucky to have this opportunity."

Bio
My name is Lorae Tavares. I am a 16 year old sophmore from New Bedford, Massachusetts. I was born and raised into music. My grand-father is Tiny Tavares, from the Grammy winning group the Tavares Brothers. At a young age I was introduced to the music world, pretty much everyone in my family has been involved or still is involved in music in some way. I love all different types of music, but a few of my influences are definately Beyonce, Adele, and Alicia Keys. I would say my music has a pop feel to it seeing I am a younger arist with some R&B Flavor in it as well. I released my first single on iTunes this year, as well as my first music video which was for the same song. We also released a remix to my first single and also have that on iTunes. We are working on a music video for the remix as well as planning the release of my second single "Piano Plays" in the upcoming month. I spend alot of time working on my craft and feel like I am quite advanced for my young age. I have made a good amount of progress in the past year, and have lot's of things in the works for the rest of 2012 and beyond!!
