Lonely Estates

A fantastic new local "super group" is out on the scene. I saw Lonely Estates open for and crush the national band they were opening for this past week at the Waiting Room Lounge. Taking up residence in Lonely Estates is Braden Rapp, Phil Reno, Dave Backhaus, Luke Backhaus and Scott Evans. Lets list some of the bands that these guys have been in or are currently in: These include Mandown, lower case i, Malpais, civicminded, Secret Weapon, Old Boy Network, Boy Noises and more. Having watched most of these guys play for over a decade it felt like these guys have landed in the right project. It's slick indie pop music with some slight electronic elements to it and some better part of the 80's song craft involved as well. These are well-structured, interesting, and best of all listenable and catchy songs. These are songs that will hold up over time. The band put together a disc before they even started playing, and one would think that this might be an amateur-type recording, but that is hardly the case. It is a full on production and one of the best listens to come out of Omaha in the past year. Something is just clicking with this band, as these are the best songs that have come out of any of their projects in the past. That is saying something looking back at these projects. The band also have a solid live show, even though they have only played a couple of gigs. I guess with that much experience it doesn't take months or years in the garage to get things meshed right. Lonely Estates will be performing this Saturday at the Sydney with Blue Rosa. - Omaha City Weekly
