"Sweet, mysterious-sounding singer who’s sad without being too gloomy – delicate songs to match." -CMJ - CMJ
"If there is any performer that is a must to check out during this CMJ it is new up-and-comer Lizzy Grant. She has a knack for writing catchy songs and sultry smoky voice reminiscent of Cat Power and Nina Simone." - - What’s Up: NYC
"Her music is a smoky, intoxicating blend of blues, folk and pure soul…. if you hit her groove you will be hooked." - - Arjan Writes (ArjanWrites.com)
"Lizzy Grant’s lyrical connotations are at once sexy and sinister, while her vocal delivery carries a slinky, determined innocence straight from the trailer park, supported by throwback grooves evocative of Nancy Sinatra, with a jazz attitude. Her visual messages are dangerously alluring. You won't be able to leave her songs without assigning your own personal meaning, and you are likely to be disturbed with what you come up with. See her at CMJ, before she starts filling arenas." - - Popdrivel (popdrivel.blogspot.com)
"I have a confession for the masses. Lizzy Grant [Myspace] is one of my new favorite artists. Her stunning performance during CMJ inspired me (Shawn and Tom, too!) to attend her show on Tuesday night at the National Underground in New York City. And the setting was quite fitting – a dank, brick-exposed cellar with dozens of sweaty fans eager to absorb her old-fashioned cool.
Armed with a distinct voice to melt and enough reverb to drown, the sultry chanteuse charmingly ambled through an abbreviated set of infectious original compositions. Through cheek-creasing grins, she pleased with songs like “Trash Magic,” “Jump,” and “Yayo.” However, it was “Mermaid Hotel” with its teasing lyrical couplet, “Will you salute me Miss America, cos I am,” which elicited the most frequent crowd outbursts. Once the music ended, the audience still craved more and demanded an encore; Grant obliged with “Gramma (Blue Ribbon Sparkler Trailer Heaven),” her strongest tune and likely single.

The iTunes Music Store named Lizzy Grant as one of the 10 Best New Artists of 2008 (in the folk/singer-songwriter category alongside artists like Little Joy, Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver and Meiko)! - iTunes Music Store
“Maybe she reminds you of Cat Power with a touch of Billie Holiday. Maybe. Aimee Mann? Hmm, not really. Sometimes you think you catch glimpses of Nico and “The Fairest of the Seasons” or “Winter Song” - not for any vocal comparisons perse, but for the way in which an artist irks you, crawls under your skin and takes up house. Lizzy Grant is the kind of singer/songwriter that walks into your home and has no intentions of leaving. And just when you were about to draw an easy comparison, Grant’s voice pulls the proverbial rug right from under you.
Grant’s music is impossibly original, her songs decidedly anti-genre: the songs on her splendid debut, Kill Kill offer an eclectic mix of jazz, pop, electronica, rock, blues and hopeful melancholy. Her videos are quirky, odd, and magical. And her voice - that voice! Heavy, throaty, breathy, soulful and haunting - images of a nomadic gypsy come to mind. And while scores of other artists attempt to craft pithy esoteric poetry, Grant’s lyrics are wholly dark, elegant, and beautiful..."

“If there was an unofficial Sweetheart Award given out, Lizzy Grant took it home with "Pawn Shop Blues."

"I'm waiting at Alice's Tea Cup, a café on the Upper East Side, when Lizzy Grant saunters up. She's wearing skintight black pants, a vintage floral blouse and a red letterman’s jacket. Her bright blonde hair is piled on top of her head and her eyes are rimmed with sooty eyeliner. If we were in a movie, her entrance would be scored with a vamp, the bass line revving to announce the arrival of an enchanting young ingénue.
But since we're not in a film, she's scored her own entrance with her CD Kill Kill. Produced by David Kahne (Regina Spektor, Sublime, Paul McCartney), the music is lush and cinematic, with strings, Wurlitzers, and electric guitars, recalling 50s-era Americana both sonically and thematically. The mix is anchored by Lizzy's voice, which twists between a smoky gravel and a breathy Marilyn coo as she wails about the timeless ache of love in a modern world.
Her EP, also titled Kill Kill, is out October 21 with a full length LP due in February ‘09. Over coffee, we discussed her music, her trailer home, and Tiger Beat..."

Bio
Lizzy Grant is one of the most unusual and interesting young artists emerging from the NYC scene. Disregarding genre, she mixes elements of pop and avant-garde, complex jazz chords with unexpected electronic flourishes, and narcotic blues with chilling lyrics that sharply contrast with the warm sound of her voice.
A mesmerizing performer, it's no surprise that Lizzy Grant is one of the most sought after and intriguing artists in the New York music scene these days. She showed up with her guitar and blew the judges away at a songwriting contest, got invited onto some impressive shows with notable headliners including The Blow, Mirah and Moby, posted some homemade music videos online and before long, had assembled a following that included everyone from teens on MySpace to major music industry heavyweights.
