Liz Lohnes

Liz Lohnes is a driven, passionate, and hard working 18 years old singer from Massachusetts, whose influences are Beyonce, Chirstina Aguilera, Joss Stone, Alicia Keys, to name a few.

She has been singing sice she was a little girl but she says that she didn’t always know she wanted to be a singer ... “I used to play violin. My brother (who plays saxophone) and I used to go to a blues jam for kids. I decided that I wanted to try singing and that's where it all started. I had always been singing before that though, from the time when I was 8 years old and got the part of the Little Mermaid in a community play.”

Her sweet voice is capable of captivating anyone and her songs are easily to relate to. She writes all the lyrics and tells that “they all come from different experiences. I write based on what I'm feeling. For example, even though it was recorded recently, "Why'd You Turn Your Back" was written in 8th grade about a best friend who ditched me to be one of the "cool kids". All of my songs come from something going on in my life. I like to write based on actual situation, that way I can put more emotion into what I'm singing and people can relate to my experiences.”

On her MySpace page, she has up five great songs... I recommend you to check out “Where you are”, which is my favourite, this is a song full of heart and emotions... “Can you Handle it”, a very catchy tune...”Do your thing”, also a catchy tune with a great message that is be yourself.

So, if you are looking for music to enjoy and to relate to, sing along with Liz Lohnes on her myspace and let the stories on her songs lead you. - Portrait Magazine (http://www.portraitmagazine.net/archives/myspace14.html)

Once Upon A Tune...

...there was a little brown-eyed princess named Liz from a land called Massachusetts and what made her happy was performing all over the kingdom whether on land or distant seas.

"I was doing a summer drama program; I think I was around 7 years old. I got the part of Ariel in “The Little Mermaid” so, of course, I had to have red hair. My dad went out and bought a red wig. My neighbor, who was only a couple years older than I was, decided that she wanted to “fix it”. Well, the entire time I was on stage, the bangs fell in my face and curled so that it looked like they were going up my nose. I was too nervous to move them, so the entire time I was on stage, it looked like I had a moustache. The home video is priceless,” recalls 19-year-old Liz Lohnes, fondly.

The princess learned and drew inspiration inside the castle walls of an all girls’ school…

"Going to an all girls’ school shaped who I am. I loved it there. I learned a lot and my friends were like sisters. The school aimed to make a strong woman in every one of their students. This is where one of my goals comes from. I want to inspire girls and young women. I am very dedicated to promoting good self-esteem and positive self-image. I was lucky to receive a scholarship from the United Divas Foundation. They encourage women to be positive role models and leaders. It was an honor to receive this award, especially because it is something I feel strongly about.

As the princess grew up into a strong, kind, and beautiful young woman she wanted to share her gift and tell all those that would hear about the things closest to her heart...

"Singing is my heart. I sing because it is a passion and an outlet. It’s the best way I know to express myself. I pour my heart into each note. My music defines who I am. It's soulful with a positive message. All of my songs are written based on experiences I've had. Anything the world can want to know about me can be found simply by listening carefully to my music." Liz reveals. "The story of my life is more like a series of short stories. Like most people, there are good stories, sad stories, and funny stories. Right now, music is my life story. I listen to it, study it, write it, and create it. When other people can relate to what I’m singing, to what I’m feeling, I feel like I’ve made a difference. Music is a powerful thing, and, if I can reach out to even just one person, it will be good. When someone tells me that one of my songs helped them through a situation, it is so rewarding. That’s what it’s all about, sharing the music, sharing the experiences and connecting with and inspiring others. I recorded a video for Special Kindness in Packages Inc. for Skip Cares, singing the national anthem. The videos are sent to the troops. I have heard from many of the soldiers who have seen the video. It is an honor to be able to thank our soldiers for doing what they do for our country."

The princess doesn't know if she will live happily ever after, but that's just part of the adventure…

"Right now, I am in the process of writing and recording new songs, working on a new CD. Meanwhile, I am performing as much as I can. Ultimately, I would like to land a recording contract with a major label. I know it is ambitious, but while I am finding my way through life, I plan on reaching for the stars. The philosophy of my high school is to teach their students to find a career path that will contribute to society. I plan on doing that with music. If you have a dream, don’t hold back. Go for it full throttle, no matter how impossible it seems."

"Recommended Artists"

“Liz Lohnes is a pop/R&B/soul singer, while Disco Curtis is an indie rock band but what they have in common is that both write their own music based on personal experiences, which makes it really easy to relate to.
Liz has a sweet and captivating voice that you won’t want to stop listening to. Disco Curtis’s music clearly shows the energy and passion Tanner, AJ, and Garret have for music.
If you are looking for cool and catchy tunes these musicians are definately a great option…their music will be spinning in your head all day long.” - http://www.1251mag.com/blog/?p=1165
