We were elated with not only his confident presence but his vocal ability and matchless control which defy comparison:
He seemed to know instinctively to move away from the mic and yet get the notes across needed to express the emotion.
Smith shows significant Stevie Wonder and Sam cooke influences with perhaps some Joe Cocker thrown in for good measure without being restrained as a "cover" musician.
The unique musical approach which Smith employs is challenging to describe at best and better really to observe first hand. One music aficionado who has discovered Novel Cafe's unique ability to find the best of the best musicians, is Pasadena entrepreneur, David G. Peterson. Peterson said quite austerely, "This guy (Smith) is incredible...you've simply got to hear him next time he's in the cafe." In addition to having inimitable vocal ability, Smith engages the audience is a gentle manner evoking the confidence of a long lost friend. Last Saturday night Smith's appeal could only be described as eclectic and thrilling. - Pasadena Independent
At first listen, the casual observer will be quick to compare him to the latest crop of blue-eyed soul singers on the mainstream radar. Didn't we hear this before? Are the guys trying to out-Robin-Thicke Robin Thicke? Is this an impression of a less cloying JT? Well, JT and Robin only wish they were gifted enough to transform sultry folk melodies and lush R&B rhythms into the comfort and expressiveness of sensual blues-inspired rock and soul. - LA2DAY
The group's high energy is mixed with eight original tracks and covers of classics such as "Let's Stay Together" and "Let Love Rule".
Smith's sultry and quivering voice is sure to seduce and impress. - Flavorpill
I first found out about this band at Green Door's jazz night back in September. Prnice had just jumped in on their set and ever since then these guys are everywhere!
They've been working hard in the studio recording their debut album, which is set to release before the New Year. This album will take us to the next level of soul. - Signature Los Angeles Magazine

Bio
Coming from a background of deep southern soul, jazz, and motown influences – it’s not surprising that Joshua has tried on many music styles in the past including a soul/sultry pop, indie/funk pop-rock, and even jazz and blues. A Dylan-influenced songwriting style with soulful roots running deep in this Nashville native’s voice, combine to form a Folk and soulful blues-like landscape as evidenced in his most recently recorded material.
The artist has recently teamed up with some unique individuals in Nashville, TN (regally dubbed, “the Bandits”) to back his recent works and EP project, “Love and War EP.1” (available only on Bandcamp). The project enlists producer, bassist, guitarist, Mike Hartnett (co-writer and performer on “Till it’s Gone” Yelawolf, and shared hits with Fergie, Rehab, and many more), singer Keelie Walker, and drummer Josh Cobb as a core group.
