My favourite new home grown artist is Lisa Michelle. Her sound reminds me of Ivana Santilli in a lot of ways and that is a very good thing; plus I love the fact that she writes her own songs and performs with an acoustic guitarist…I’ve always been a sucker for the bohemian types. If you haven't yet experienced the beautiful sensation that is LISA MICHELLE, you've probably not been paying close attention! She is definately an up and comer, and since I met her back in September last year, I now see her everywhere.
We first met as a fluke. My husband and I went to a rehearsal for an upcoming show, and she was rehearsing ahead of us for the same show. My first thought of LISA was, 'what a pretty lady!', and then she sang--I was pleasantly impressed! She sang two covers, one by Cee Lo and the next K-Os (not an easy feat for a female singer to sing songs by men) and I loved her interpretation of both.
In chatting with her, she mentioned that she is relatively new to performing, that she decided not too long ago to pursue singing as a profession. You would never know/believe it to watch her though. There is such an ease to her performance style that suggests the stage has been her home for years. Watching her live is absolutely delightful!

Lisa Michelle is a singer, songwriter & stage performer living and loving in the city of Toronto. Born and raised in Mississauga, Lisa Michelle began piano lessons at 6, singing church solos at 14, and performing in her first musical by the time she was 15 years old. More theatre and television roles followed in the years to come, but it was her voice that framed her existence as an artist.
In 2011, Lisa Michelle independantly released the albums “Love Lessons” - a warm, smooth Neo-Soul experience produced by Duff Musiq and “Rebound” – a quick hit of sexy R&B Pop produced by Dan “DFS” Johnson in Atlanta. She had nearly 100 live shows in less than 2 years, performing songs from these albums (as well as covers) across the city. Some performance highlights include Canadian Music Week, Irie Music Fest, MuchMusic Video Awards, singing the anthems at a sold-out Raptors game and a solo performance at the reknowned Massey Hall concert venue.
Fast forward to This Moment: the title of Lisa Michelle’s third studio release. This 8-track album was executive produced by Juno-nominated artist & producer Solitair and released in November of 2012. This Moment satisfies any and all cravings for ‘straight-goods’ R&B, with it’s hip hop flavour, touch of jazz and soulful vocal stylings. It flows through themes of love, lust, living your dreams and being your true self… right now… and always.
This summer (June 2013), Lisa Michelle and her band will be performing at the world-famous Montreal Jazz Festival! By fall, she will be back on the musical theatre stage to reprise her principal role in “Godspell” at St. Jacob’s Playhouse (with Drayton Entertainment).
