"This is a really well put-together tune, Lionheir. There's a charming vintage pop vibe throughout and the production's just super bright and gleeful. 3.5 from me".
3.5/5 Stars - Dave Ruby Howe- Assistant Australian Music Director

Catchy pop driven by the beat of Terepai Richmond and Grant Gerathy's famed drums. Lionheir's (or Paul Appelkamp) debut has taken three years and it shows through rousing lyrics and dynamic instrumentation.
Traversing the balladry of Shooting Stars to the upbeat '60s pop of Waterfall, Lair is a solid entry to an indie-soaked market. - Cassandra Tobin- The Northern Star

With new songs in claws, Lionheir approached ARIA nominated record producer Anthony Lycenko (Busby Marou, Pete Murray) last year with the intention of making an album that captured the warmth of '60s soul records and the power of modern indie-rock.
And, excellent news, that's exactly what he's created. With subtle horns and little harmonies, big keys, hand claps and swing rhythms, Lionheir's debut album is sunny, gorgeous, beautifully sung, and will make you smile". - Kate Elks

Bio
Lionheir, formerly known as alt-folk artist Paul Appelkamp, moved to a high hill near Byron Bay in 2010 to write tunes. Amid forests, waterfalls and rivers, he crafted an album worth of his finest rock-infused pop songs.
He laid them down at Byron Bay's Studios 301 last year (2012) and they comprised his debut album Lair, which has just been uncaged.
Lionheir co-produced the album with Anthony Lycenko (Busby Marou) and it features some of Australia's finest musicians, including drummer Terepai Richmond (Lanie Lane, Gurrumul, DIG), bass player OJ 'Juice' Newcomb (Afro Dizzi Act, Band of Frequencies) and drummer Grant Gerathy (Ray Mann Three, Bobby Alu).
Lionheir was recently selected as a semi-finalist in the prestigious International Songwriting Competition (2013) for one of the album's songs, Shooting Stars - a warm ballad about artists who have died too young.
Another of the album's songs, My Friend, which he also co-produced, recently earned him Best Production at the 2012 North Coast Entertainment Industry Dolphin Awards.
It's fair to say this rock-pop animal has a knack for writing tunes that get stuck in your head. When he plays live, Lionheir is backed up by funk-rock drummer extraordinaire Grant Gerathy and swamping bass player Joel Burton. ?
After two massive Australian tours in 2012, Lionheir and band will hit the road again in August this year, with dates released soon.
Check out www.lionheir.com for all tour dates.
