Lili Rocha

It seems not long ago that Lili Rocha was singing in the streets and squares of her small native town in Brazil. Lili’s great passion for music led her to be named the winner of the prominent “Gabriela” talent show in Ilhéus, Brazil, where she outshined other hopeful young singers.

From there, Lili began the journey of a lifetime, performing shows throughout Portugal, Italy and Switzerland. Lili Rocha fell in love with the essence of Europe, and made a permanent move to Switzerland, continuing to pursue her dreams.
Between time spent working and touring in her new environment, Lili particularly gained huge support from the Italian community of Switzerland. Soon after, Lili attended Accademia di Musica Italiana and studied under maestro Antonio Guglielmi with whom she also recorded her first songs. As her career progressed, Lili Rocha was discovered by producer, Matthias Oertle, with whom she works closely on many of her successful projects. Not far away from her humble roots, Lili’s ambition and creative drive continue to further her toward achieving her dreams.

Lili Rocha’s four released albums, containing songs in Portuguese, Spanish and Italian, have found great success, reigning in a dedicated fan base for this adult contemporary/soft rock songstress, with over 21 million profile views on MySpace.
The first album, Me Deixa Sonhar (2003), boasts modest success in Lili’s native Brazilian market, and sold over 80,000 records in Italy. Lili promoted her first album back in her hometown, appearing in numerous TV and live performances throughout Brazil’s largest cities, Sao Paolo, and Rio. Lili Rocha’s growing success left audiences anxiously awaiting her next release.

The following year, Lili launched her sophomore album Recomeçar (2004) in Europe. Recomeçar (2004) did not fall short of the fans’ expectations, going gold in Italy with 40,000 copies sold. Lili’s third studio release, titled Amuleto (2007), turned out to be a lucky charm indeed. Shortly after its release, Lili Rocha embarked on the Amuleto concert tour, performing for thousands of frenzied fans and traveling to many major cities throughout Italy and Spain. The spirit of over eighty shows along the tour was captured and compiled as Lili’s first live album, Lili Rocha Live (2009). This album, released as both CD and DVD, was another huge hit, going gold in Italy and showcasing her true talent as a live performer.

Lindinalva de Souza Rocha, an adult contemporary rock singer known by her stage name “Lili Rocha,” has released her first English album, Lili Rocha Rocks!, which features the single, “I’m Alright.” Lili originates from Bahia, Brazil, where she grew up singing in the streets and town squares. After winning a prominent music contest in Brazil, Lili toured in Italy, Switzerland, and Portugal. She grew to greatly admire Europe upon her stay there, and decided to make a permanent move towards Switzerland.

Musical Study in Europe

The move to Switzerland proved to be a successful choice for Lili’s career. Shortly after her arrival, she studied at the Accademia di Musica Italiana, and began to completely immerse herself in music. Lili was soon thereafter discovered by a producer and began to publish her music.

Album Production and Success in Italy

Lili released her first album Me Deixa Sonhar (Let Me Dream)in 2003, which has been followed by two other studio albums Recomeçar (Start Over) (2004) and Amuleto (Charm) (2007), which feature songs in Portuguese, Spanish, and Italian. Lili’s success has especially attracted the Italian community in Switzerland, which has spread to Italy’s mainland as well. Her first album was among the top 100 in sales in Italy, and her album, as well as two of her other albums, was awarded a Golden Disc Award in Italy.

Concert Tour in Italy

Her fame in Italy landed her an extensive concert tour in Italy beginning in 2007, which featured over 80 live performances. Although Lili resides in Zurich, Switzerland, she has recorded all of her albums in Milan with Italian musicians, excluding her newest album Lili Rocha Rocks!, which is in English.

Lili Rocha inizia la sua carriera artistica vincendo il concorso “Gabriella”: una prestigiosa competizione, riservata a giovani talenti, che si tiene ogni anno a Bahia. Lili Rocha Rocks, il nuovo disco della cantante brasiliana, è stato presentato venerdì scorso alla stampa nella cornice a 5 stelle dell’hotel Park Hyatt di Milano. Prodotto negli stati Uniti tra Los Angeles e New York, è il suo primo album totalmente in lingua inglese, il quinto dall’esordio datato 2003. Grazie alla collaborazione tra il produttore di sempre Matthias Oertle e il songwriter americano John Watts, “Lili Rocha Rocks!” propone sonorità vicine al rock e al folk tradizionale che fanno brillare ancora di più la voce unica di questa artista completa, l’intensità delle sue interpretazioni e la sua grinta rock.

Dopo la breve sessione fotografica di prammatica in una serie di pose ammiccanti, la Rocha si siede sul divano della saletta che ci ospita, il busto piegato in avanti e i gomiti sulle ginocchia, e inizia il racconto. Parla un italiano assolutamente comprensibile ma inevitabilmente contaminato con la sua lingua madre. Racconta dei suoi esordi e di quanto impegno e duro lavoro ci sia dietro ai suoi successi; di quanto abbia sempre amato e desiderato venire a vivere nel nostro Paese e di quanta emozione le abbia sempre dato cantare in italiano. Il breve incontro si conclude con una piccola performance in esclusiva che si rivela un’altra sorpresa: poche battute di un imprevedibile “Uomini addosso” di Milva (era il Sanremo del 1993) che la Rocha interpreta ben piantata sui tacchi e mani sui fianchi, ancheggiando con aria di sfida.
