"SWBMAI Jamboree A Huge Success"

...From my perspective as a newcomer to bluegrass music it was a treat to hear Liberty Bluegrass Band perform "Hot Corn, Cold Corn", a song we novices have attempted to play at the SWBMAI Beginners Jam. Another of my personal favorites was the "Legend of the Reble Soldier" with its requisite but challenging key changes between verses. ... - Jim Knobloch, Fireball Mail May/June 07

"Liberty Bluegrass Band to play at Chamber Benefit Concert"

Liberty Bluegrass Band from Milwaukee will play at chamber benefit concert

Karen Haley, president of the Wilmington-Clinton County Chamber of Commerce, said plans are coming together nicely for the “Taking Care of Business” Benefit Concert, which is being held on at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 17 at the Roberts Centre.

“One of our performers hails from Milwaukee, Wis., who read about our plight in the USA Today News

and immediately called me requesting to play in our concert,” said Haley.

The Liberty Bluegrass Band (LBB) formed in early 2006 to provide an outlet to four bluegrass fanatics expressing their love for this music. The LBB is dedicated to traditional bluegrass music. No electric instruments — just wood, metal, strings and a lot of heart going into every song. Great fun for the entire family.

Lead and harmony vocals set LBB apart. Rick Lewis provides smooth, strong and soaring vocals. James Brocksmith picks the Scruggs style 5-string banjo. Eric Langford plays mandolin and bluegrass fiddle. Jeff Couillard plays the all-important foundation to any bluegrass band, the upright bass.

Their 2008 release, “Life, Liberty Bluegrass and the Pursuit of Happiness” was produced and recorded at GuyFi Studios, Cudahy, Wis.

Other performers at the benefit will include comedian Kay Frances, Gran Bel Fisher (Jesse Littleton) and Brent Keith. Information on these will be forthcoming.

Tickets in advance can be purchased for $35 at the chamber office, 40 N. South Street or $40 at the event.

"United Airlines Hemispheres In-Flight Magazine"

I started this bluesgrass jam in Mar 08' and it has really caught on. Every Tuesday night I host a jam along with my Mandolin/Fiddle player. The place can really get packed. Our promotion makes this happen, just as we do for ALL our gigs.

Here is the article:
The community hostess Although Shari Franz lived just 20 miles west of Milwaukee, she was nervous about moving to St. Francis, closer in and just south of the city. She needn’t have worried. “I’ve only been here two years, and I’m
amazed at how many people I’ve already met,” she ays. “Everyone’s so friendly.” No doubt it helps that shortly after Franz arrived, she opened St. Francis’ first coffee
joint, Fixx Coffee House. The spacious shop seats 68 and contains a stage, outdoor seating, and a drive-through. Franz’s aim is to make her coffeehouse a welcoming place for people of all ages, plus a spot where longtime residents can meet the throngs of
newcomers moving into the condominiums sprouting up along the lake. “The people in the condos are craving a sense of community
with the people who have been here a long time, and the coffeehouse is a catalyst for that to happen,” says Franz. Her coffeehouse has also invigorated the bluegrass community, thanks to its Tuesday night bluegrass jams, which are standingroom-
only events. And then there’s the
dating board, where singles can post information about themselves free of charge. With a significant chunk of condo residents single, that’s been a hit as well.

Bio

LBB was formed in early 2006 to provide an outlet to four bluegrass fanatics to express our love for this music. Lead and harmony vocals set LBB apart from the field. Rick provides great lead vocals and in-touch MC duties.

The band was awarded the 2009 WAMI (WI Area Music Industry) Bluegrass Artist of the Year and 2008 WAMI CD Roulette win. In 2008 LBB was also nominated as WAMI's Bluegrass Artist of the Year. The Liberty Bluegrass Band is dedicated to traditional bluegrass music with a twist. Liberty Bluegrass is a great mix of traditional bluegrass and HonkyTonk Rock-a-Billy music. We feature fiddle, banjo, mandolin, upright doghouse bass, guitar and unbelievable (actually quite believable by looking at the awards) soaring vocals.

In 2009 Liberty Bluegrass is set to play the WI State Fair and Milwaukee's Bastille Days which are two of the largest festivals in the Midwest. Other major 2009 stages include the 700-seat AI Ringling Theatre (known as the "prettiest playhouse in America"), Baraboo, WI, the prestigious Chicago's Fitzgerald's, and legendary Shank Hall in Milwaukee. Other 2009 dates include east coast tour stops at the famous NYC's Googies Lounge above the Living Room, Brooklyn's folky Jalopy and Podunk Bluegrass Festival invitational only National Bluegrass Band Competition located in E. Hartford, CT. All of this scheduling while completing our second studio album featuring original songs and songs not expected put in Liberty's original stylings.

Liberty Bluegrass Band has performed at large venues like the Harley-Davidson 105th Anniversary Celebration (Milwaukee 08’) and the many bluegrass festivals including the Bill Jorgenson Memorial Bluegrass Festival (Kewaunee, WI 08') and the quite popular Jammin For The Gardens Bluegrass Festival (Delevan, WI 06’ and 08’). Community festivals continue to be a large part of our schedule including Greendale’s Village Days (08’) and Hay Days (06’, 07',08’). We also play regional festivals such as Port Washington’s Maritime Heritage Festival (06’ and 08’) opening for regional southern rock/country headliners (Brandon James Band). We have played concert settings including Hartland’s Concert Series (07’, 08’, 09').

We also give back by hosting our own festival, The Bluegrass Benefit Festival for Juvenile Diabetes. Now in our third year, we have raised over $7000 for JDRF.

We have also traveled to broaden the appeal of the band. We have played the Mandolin Café in Tacoma, WA and traveled north to play the Manitowish Water Bluegrass Festival.

We have played large corporate events such as JohnsonDiversey (A Johnson Wax Company) and many weddings/private parties making memories along the way.

The Liberty Bluegrass Band can adapt to make any event work. From large venues to small community festivals back out to corporate events and returning to weddings, LBB will satisfy most all clients.

Liberty consist of Rick Lewis on lead vocal and guitar, Jeff Couillard on upright bass, Mark Vitkus on mandolin and James Brocksmith on banjo.
