Bio
Although 100% Japanese-American, Liane was born & raised as a "local girl" in Hawaii. Surfing & hula dancing occupied most of her time growing up in paradise, but it wasn't until she turned 20 that she discovered a passion for music & began to explore her natural talent.
Considered a late musical bloomer, Liane has a certain surprise factor that can't be denied in performance. Listeners in an audience are often taken aback by her pure tone, natural soul, & energetic belts. With no formal training in voice or guitar, she wrote & produced her first acoustic demo under the stage name "Lady L" in 2008. "Peace, love, & soul', proved popular with the neo-soul/hip-hop crowds, but not quite enough to captivate the general public.
With that in mind, the latter half of 2009 was an incubation period for a newer sound. "I wanted something timeless but not old, meaningful but fun, & with good songwriting, but still soulful." The songs were written right away, but the search for a producer was a long journey. "I was just about to give up. I met with some great producers, but something in me just couldn't make a decision. When I met Randy Wine & heard his work, I knew right away that he was supposed to be the producer."
The self titled EP featured studio musician friends Matt Lucich (drums), Aron Forbes (guitar), & William "Matty" Taylor (bass). Additional appearances by musicians Alex Burke & Jonathan Schanes on keys & Toby Karlin on sax. The EP was only 4 songs long, but the results were a perfect blend of pop, soul, & fun times in the studio. So much fun, it's rumored not one day went by where someone was either the victim of a practical joke or "death" by laughter.
As she keeps it real in the studio & live performances, Liane's lyrics connect her to her audience in such genuine fashion that it's a common fan request for her to sing her original ballad "Be Enough" for a first dance at a wedding. To which, she is more than happy to gift the song to the couple & their families. She writes much about love, but in anticipation for more studio time next year, continues to collaborate with up & coming LA songwriters to both expand & refine her songwriting
