Bio
Don’t let his young age fool you – LG’s poise, creative wherewithal, intelligence, and grasp of life are light years ahead of his time. Creating a new, universally appealing sound unlike anything you’ll hear in his Southern hometown, LG is paving the way for a new blended genre of honest, feel-good, street music – a sound you simply can’t forget.
Born and raised in the 5th ward of New Orleans, Louisiana, LG grew up in a house full of musicians whose talents contributed to him discovering his own knack for spitting rhymes at the tender age of 7. A natural performer, the young artist eventually found himself entertaining guests at local showcases and talent shows. As a student in middle school, LG continued to write music, staying focused on his craft instead of easily getting caught up in the streets. His discipline paid off in 2005 when the 15-year-old LG decided to take his talents serious and pursue music as a career. Heavily influenced by his older brother “Dinero” who formed the rap group “Da Goonz” with fellow rapper “Bonka,” LG used his everyday experiences and life in the hood as material for his debut mixtape titled “Cinco,” released May 5, 2011. The well-received project garnered over 10,000 downloads, creating a regional buzz about the upcoming Southern talent.
Later that year, LG was invited to perform at the popular A3C Hip-Hop Festival in Atlanta, -- his first major performance outside of New Orleans. The exposure only helped to fan the flames “Cinco” had created, thus increasing the anticipation for his sophomore mixtape “Synth Sounds” released in January of 2012. LG’s intuitive lyrics meshed with the classy and often jazz-inspired beats by producers including Phil Mic, Flight School, Ashton Beats and AJMakinBeatz, was the perfect mixture to catapult the N.O. native to the next level in the industry.
LG went on to perform on stages throughout Baton Rouge and New Orleans and eventually landed at the annual SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas where famed producer Timbaland brought him out on stage to freestyle in front of thousands. The rising star eventually performed with Dr. John, and opened up for Drake during the rapper’s Club Paradise tour, and fellow New Orleans–bred Curren$y at the House of Blues. Soon after, LG headlined his own House of Blues show and found himself in the studio recording a new song with Curren$y titled “Battlefield,” which became the hit single from his third mixtape “World Winds,” released on Dec. 7, 2012 – the birthday of his beloved auntie who passed away. The project created an even bigger buzz for the young emcee, attracting fans young and old all across the Southern states.
Riding an overwhelming wave of success, LG just dropped his self-titled project Jahvon. With official cosigns from celebrity artists the likes of Curren$y Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, Pharrell and a feature on Snoop Dogg’s “Doggysode #18” webisode. “I want to be different from everything else out there. I want [people who listen] to relate to what I see and feel better about themselves, while being entertained. It’s just a big mixture of creativity,” explains LG. With future goals to work with a wish list of heavy hitters including Scarface, Nas, Jay Z, Sade, and Solange, it won’t be long before LG’s unique creativity and heartthrob good looks are displayed for the world to see.
