Braintree native Laurence E Butterfield recently received the honor of being named a finalist by the Song Of The Year songwriting contest for August 2007.
Song Of the year is an international songwriting contest supporting VH-1's Save The Music Foundation. The contest judges are some of the biggest names in music, including many Grammy Award Winners.
Butterfield, who was recognized for his song "Funeral Ballad," competed against songwriters from all over the world for this honor. He said the song was based on a real event that happened in Maine.
