Bio
Latcho Drom is a "wussy, indie-rocky, post-hardcore" band from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, featuring members of Scrapbooker, Ghost Cousin, Daydream Johnny, Organized Sports, National Security Council, and Lontananza. They sing songs about drinking, comedians, divorce, historical figures who drank, getting too drunk while on tour, small towns, perception, astronomy, place and meaning. Their first 7", Paper Trails b/w A Lonely Christmas For Coco Haley Gordon Moore, was produced by Mathew Leterksy at the Secret Ghost House in February, and released on their own Enlightened Despotism imprint in September 2012, which they followed up with a fall tour of Western Canada, playing shows with Stalwart Sons, Sightlines, Dead Soft, Babysitter, The Moas, Desiderata, Book of Caverns, Veneers, Todos Caeran, Flint, and The Foggy Notions. In the spring of 2013 their original bassist Matt took leave to focus his energies on other projects. Always prepared to turn a crisis to an opportunity, Latcho Drom enlisted the bass talents of Greg Jackson (formerly of Organized Sports) and Chris Kessler (formerly of Daydream Johnny) for dual-bass extravagence. They recorded their first album in Saskatoon with Chad Munson of The Moas pushing all the buttons, slated for release Summer 2013, with BART Records releasing a complete collection of all their recorded material on cassette autumn/winter 2013.
Latcho Drom loves the bands Stalwart Sons, Fist City, The Moas, Grown-Ups, Veneers, Catgut, Dog Day, Diehatsu Hijets, York Redoubt, Consilience, The Soft Pack, Sonic Youth, Times New Viking, Yuck, and North of America, and is constantly inspired by their music and tireless work ethic.
Meaning "safe journey" in the Romani language, Latch Drom is a monument to the human spirit that continually perseveres in the face of seemingly insurmountable tragedy. Latcho Drom aims to use their live shows to provide a temporary autonomous zone to bring together disparate and atomized artistic communities. Latcho Drom is keeping the spirit of rock&roll alive amidst the swirling rumours of it's imminent demise.
