Bio
My music career began singing Freedom Songs as a civil rights worker for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in the mid 1960's. My commitment to his ideals and to raising social consciousness pervades the lyrics of many of my songs. Musically, I'm rooted in blues, soul-jazz and folk music which blend together into my own unique sound. The songs on my album, "The High Road," range from folk-rock to bluegrass to blues to smooth jazz to rock to country with a sea shanty thrown in for fun. Several of them have been included in theater productions. Recording my album I had the opportunity to work with the great June Pointer who added background harmonies to 4 of the songs. It may be the last recording she ever did before her untimely demise. Recently I was able to bring Bonnie Pointer into the studio to re-record the lead vocal on one of those songs, "22nd Century."
