Bio
Jazz keyboardist Lance Randall was born in Macon, Georgia and began playing the piano at the age of 8. By the time he reached his teen age years he added the organ and drums to his repertoire, and used his talents playing for his church and conventions around the country.
He is a graduate of Morgan State University where he majored in political science, but chose music courses as his electives to sharpen his playing skills. He became infatuated with jazz after taking a music course, The Survey of Jazz. where he learned about legendary jazz pianists Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, Count Basie, Oscar Peterson, Art Tatum and contemporary jazz pianists Joe Sample, Ramsey Lewis, George Duke, and Herbie Hancock. Intrigued with how the diversity of rhythms and chords made piano jazz so alluring, he began creating his own jazz compositions.
After graduating from college, he returned to Macon to resume playing in the church, and recording his music in his home studio. He eventually met local producer, Albert Armstrong who was so impressed with his music, that he arranged for Lance to open up for renowned Jazz Violinist, Ken Ford in 2005. This was the beginning of his journey to share his music with the purest of jazz enthusiasts and the new generation of jazz lovers.
Now living in Seattle, Washington, Lance and The Nu Jazz Playas have performed at festivals and venues around the Puget Sound such as the Bite of Seattle, Festival Sundiata, Taste of Tacoma, Rock and Roll Marathon, Choochokam Arts Festival, Seattle Museum of Flight, Jackson Street Music Festival, Smooth Jazz Rendezvous on Lake Union, Seattle Snow Ball, Green Dolphin Lounge, Willie's Taste of Soul and Urban Enoteca.
