A melancholic twist on the love as an assassin metaphor also heard in Franz Ferdinand’s “Take Me Out,” Ladyfang’s “How Long” is lovably unhip, removing all of the forced posturing that ruins too many anti-romance songs, aiming instead for sincerity in both sound and phrasing. Cara Juan’s voice is perfectly suited for this kind of material, equal parts Chrissie Hynde and Florence Welch. The band weaves in elements of New Wave and big beat girl group singles but wisely stays out of Juan’s way for the most part, allowing her smooth yet personable voice to shine and command attention. - OVRLD
Austin’s Ladyfang is a band with bite. Lead singer Cara Juan captivates listeners with her raw, hypnotic vocals and a playful attitude reminiscent of Tragic Kingdom era Gwen Stefani. The four piece has a dynamic sound that seamlessly moves from tropical, jazz fusion, to electrifying synth rock. Juan ties everything together with her rich, magnetic voice and presence.
Not only do they have a sound you can sink your teeth into, they’re lyrics are equally empowering and relatable. From dealing with toxic relationships on “Narcissist” to paying off one’s loans on “All Your Money,” Ladyfang are the modern-day riot grrrl band you need in your life right now.
Having just played Sound Dessert’s Nasty Bits: A Planned Parenthood Benefit, I can confidently say they’ve got the goods on and off stage.
Ladyfang’s latest single “Devil” is a raucous track about self-worth. The song begins in high school and moves through college as Cara sings of hanging out with the wrong people because, “you can’t stand to be alone” and “losing yourself at 23,” to eventually realize you deserve better from yourself and others. The song ends on an emboldened note as Cara says “fuck it” and “you don’t know me” as the track comes to a swift “mic drop” close. - Sound Desserts

Bio
Ladyfang is an indie rock, alternative band originally formed as "A Case for Brooklyn" in Austin in late 2013 by Andre Juan, as guitarist and composer, and Cara Juan as singer and composer. Joining them on bass guitar was Tyler "Chocolate" Schutte and Robert Hoeckman Jr. on drums. Cara has been compared to Bjork and Gwen Stefani; her haunting howls and melodic nuances lead the band's unique sound. Their performances are passionate and thunderous, filled with chaotic dancing and an unencumbered playfulness. They relocated to Brooklyn in 2014 adding Rodney "Danger" Joseph on drums and Shahar Katz on bass guitar. In 2016, the band returned to Austin reborn as "Ladyfang" with Chocolate resuming his role on bass guitar. In early 2017, the band released a new single, "How Long," which OVRLD described as an anti-romance song with a "lovably unhip" and sincere sound. The single is one of many songs to be featured on the band's debut album, "For Morgan", which was self-released in May 2017. The band's energy caught the eyes of many, including, Laurie Gallardo, KUTX 98.9, "[For Morgan] takes on the heartache with raw energy and playful, killer hooks. Make way for the quirky, funky, frenetic frenzy." In March 2018, they released their single, "Daydreamer", which is set to be featured in their upcoming album.
