For Labors, it's about about the nuances and subtleties. The band's blanket warm approach to indie relies on folky tendencies with delicate alt-country backdrops. But the tie that binds their music together is lead singer Z.L. Melton's irresistibly warm croon as his oft-melancholy lyrics lead the way. -RICHARD GIRALDI - Loud Loop Press

Bio
Labors is the ever-evolving musical endeavor of Z. L. Melton, Sarah Rose Anderson, Jacob Hand, Alexis Dionissopoulos, and Addison Ashbaugh. The group strives to create music that marries delicate, jazz-inspired melodies with commanding drone grooves, and haunted noise-scapes that reanimate the lost soul of a wild frontier. Now a quintet, Labors can more aptly explore different dynamics and sounds it wasnt able to in earlier lineups. The result is Blue Funk. Blue Funk was recorded by James Wagner at Strobe Recording in July 2013, and mixed by Jim Becker (Califone, Iron & Wine) and mastered by Bill Alletzhauser (The Hiders, Ass Ponys) and Brian Moeller. It is the culmination of several years worth of composing and obsessive woodshedding. On Blue Funk, Meltons words tell stories of friendship, love, and truth. Labors first title, The Dry As A Bone EP, was digitally self-released in February, 2012 and is available, for free, at labors.bandcamp.com. It was recorded and engineered by Jacob Hand at Down The Rabbit Hole Recording, mixed by Brian J. Sulpizio (Health&Beauty) at Chateau Recording, and mastered by Bill Alletzhauser (The Hiders, Ass Ponys) at The Bat Cave.
