Raney and ACM@UCO Performance Lab brings together Oklahoma City’s most finest talented artists, a community of family and friends, and music industry executives to rejoice together as the power of music rocks the city with the spring sounds of true Hip Hop and focus on one common goal of uniting rather than separating the rap scene.

A Different Musical Approach to Support a Child Suffering from Epilepsy
Oklahoma City, OK. – November 3, 2014 – Artists have ways of reaching our youth through music, but L- Smooth chooses to take actions from a different standpoint in support of National Epilepsy Awareness Month. L-Smooth is a special guest performer at Venue 42 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma for, “The Great Adventures of Slick Rick” concert to be held November 7, 2014 headlined by the Grammy Nominated Artist, Slick Rick, the Ruler. This event presented by Venue 42 will bring back Slick Rick’s classics, such as, “Children’s Story” the second single that made top 5 on the Hot R&B and Rap Track charts from his Platinum award-winning album, “The Great Adventures of Slick Rick.”
Previously L-Smooth launched a campaign to raise medical funding and awareness for a 10 year old Oklahoma child, Demarion Pittman. At the tender age of 3 years old, a life-threatening negligent accident during daycare caused Demarion long suffering with Epilepsy, Blindness, Neurological Disorders, severe Brain Damage, and left him without the use of his arms. L-Smooth continues to help raise medical funding and awareness of Demarion’s Law. Currently, licensed daycares in twenty states are not required to carry liability insurance, thus Demarion’s Law is needed in the states not covered.
“My merchandise table at this concert will include, “Hope for the Future” bracelets in honor of Demarion. The donation cost is $8.00. Informational materials will be included at my table to bring exposure to our campaign,” said L-Smooth. “As a parent, there is nothing more frightening than your child being injured. Accidents do happen so I would hope to see Demarion's Law effective nationwide. It would help put single parents or families at ease when sending their children to a home daycare.”
L-Smooth doesn’t fit the usual profile of an artist. Unlike most artists whom are recognized as having a very distinguished image that identifies with their street life, L-Smooth’s style of production approaches the new millennium in an effort to bring substance, originality, and underlying positive energy to the city streets. L- Smooth uses his music career to make a difference in his local area.
The upcoming concert, “The Great Adventures of Slick Rick” is presented live by Venue 42, 1164 N. MacAuthur Blvd. Oklahoma City, OK 73127 with host DJ2K on November 7, 2014. Doors open at 7:00pm. Awareness Increasing with the “Take Her Home” Initiative
Following the Fatherless Children Campaign
New Co-Branded Triple Promotion Appears to Be Motivating Fan Support
Midwest City, OK. – February 19, 2014 – Fans have answered the call to supporting an Oklahoma Artist in making a difference in promoting healthier relationships and family units by shedding light on the detrimental effects of fatherless children. Thoughtless decisions made by two adults caught up in sexual desires was exposed.
L-Smooth’s Manager, Rodney Dawson of Street City Enterprises, LLC narrates the song, “Take Her Home is about a story surrounded by a one-night stand with a reality twist. The lovers go back to her house and the moment is sexually intensifying until her 4 children bust in the bedroom asking their mom--is that my daddy?”
Lamar Mensah aka L-Smooth set the tone for those in spiraled relationships with “Take Her Home” from his first album, “You Welcome.” His message has made a major impact during the Valentine’s Day Cross-Promotion outreach utilizing Media Relations, Social Media and Email Marketing Campaigns launched by Celestial Caring Enterprises.
This new campaign, which challenged people to acknowledge future consequences and promoting selfless choices will continue to expose a very serious issue that occurs throughout the world. Reality doesn’t get any smoother than this! L-Smooth intends to educate adults through song storytelling by encouraging communities to listen and share his message using the hashtag #TakeHerHome to help bring awareness to this devastating issue during a love-making season that can be the joy to many, but a regret to most.
L-Smooth has been a Community Leader in Oklahoma his whole life. Each year he is the performing headliner for a local Midwest City yearly benefit Christmas concert, “Rap Gives.” If I can get one person at a time to be encouraged to become a better person through listening to my music, I did my job,” stated L-Smooth. During his Valentine Promotion, he randomly selected three of his fans to receive an “Exclusive” Valentine’s gift in appreciation for supporting his cause. He then spent the day after at GrindHouse to show love to customers and children by passing out his autographed posters and decals.
The new approach reached his audience by tapping into new market areas to ignite people to make better decisions during a season that exhilarates loving souls becoming one in body. After you Take Her Home, L-Smooth will take his audience into a new forthcoming single called, “Pillow Cases” set to launch this year. This spicy title with a signature smooth Golden Era sound exposes an intense message. L-Smooth hopes to connect with his audience through strategically tailored postings that will increase artist-fan engagement and keep his network informed of upcoming musical initiatives that are making a difference. - Tishawn Seaton
L-Smooth, of Street City Enterprises out of Oklahoma City was one of the many talented performers of the evening, who stopped to chime in as well:
“I’m pumped and completely amped for tonight. It’s exciting to be here out in the big apple.. Manhattan, to do something completely for the love of the hip hop culture.” - Presented by Xtreme 104FM)
Lamar “L-Smooth” Mensah felt like people were sleeping on his potential as an emcee. So he wrote them a wake-up call.
“Pillow Cases,” out now, is the first single from L-Smooth’s album Era of an Emcee, due out later this summer. The song features the Midwest City native throwing out rhyme after rhyme that has convinced listeners to hold off on the snooze button so far.
With assistance from the soulful Shylah Vaughn on the chorus, “Pillow Cases” has made noise on indie charts, including Digital Radio Tracker’s National Airplay Top 50 and Top 60 Independent charts.
“Plateau,” the album’s second single, is set for a June 2 release. And while L-Smooth wants people to hear and appreciate his art, he’s not too worried about writing hits.
He said his goal is to create timeless music; he never thought that “Pillow Cases” or any other tune might see radio success.
“I didn’t even think about it, man,” he said. “I just make music that feels good. I don’t ever think, ‘Oh, this is a hit song. This needs to be on the radio.’”
The path leading L-Smooth into music was one that grew organically over time. He grew up listening to many different genres of music, not just hip-hop. He also freestyled for friends, who, in turn, pushed him to take his talents even further.
“It’s like therapy a lot of times, too,” he said. “You can get a lot off your chest through song.”
Although he’s a self-described hip-hop purist, L-Smooth refuses to perpetuate the negative stereotypes that are often portrayed in mainstream media. He realizes that some of his fans are young and impressionable, so instead, he follows the genre’s roots to its earliest days in New York, when raps were more about perseverance, family, independence, urban survival and overcoming social and economic adversity.
“People have different upbringings, but at the end of the day, I want to put a positive message out there that you can be a successful person without selling drugs,” he said. “You can make good music without putting profanity in it.”
Being a father also inspires him to keep his message on the up-and-up.
His son Latrell, 12, also freestyle raps. In a February show, Latrell took the stage during a “pass the mic” session — to the surprise of his father — and dropped rhymes for his first time in front of an audience.
“Honestly, it brought a tear to my eye,” L-Smooth said, “because that wasn’t something where I told him to go up there.”
L-Smooth is part of a growing number of local emcees who work hard to create and share positive messages with the community’s younger generation. He said the local hip-hop scene is healthy and it gains momentum and legitimacy as artists push boundaries and tear down negative stereotypes.

He believes that slowly but certainly, the scene is waking up and coming together around messages of urban unity and individual independence.
“All we really want is a chance,” he said. “Come out to a show. Some people have a stereotype that people in Oklahoma can’t rap, but just give us a chance and let us show you what we can do.”

In the world of Hip Hop, most artists are recognized as having a very distinguished image that identifies with their street life, but not for L-Smooth. He doesn’t fit the usual profile of an artist in the Hip Hop nation. His smooth style of production approaches the new millennium in an effort to bring substance, originality, and underlying energy to the city streets. L-Smooth is able to share his daily life experiences and be the voice of his peers through sharp lyrical storytelling, such as with his forthcoming new single, Pillow Cases. “This spicy new title has a signature smooth Golden Era sound with an intense message,” stated L-Smooth’s Manager, Rodney Dawson of Street City Enterprises, LLC.
Lamar Mensah was born and raised in a lower class area of Midwest City, Oklahoma by his single mother whom worked two jobs to take care of him and his sister. At a very early age, he spent most of his time free-styling with his friends. At 13, L-Smooth admired many Hip Hop artists in the Golden Era from the West Coast, East Coast, and Down South, such as Fabulous, Redman, Scarface, Outkast, Big Boi, and Talib Kweli. His passion and hunger to use his voice to make a difference in the lives of others led him to writing and recording music that was putting out a positive message. L-Smooth said, “My music breathes life into people that need to hear a good message that will change their negative mindset to a positive way of thinking.” L-Smooth was surrounded by drugs and violence, but he chose not to get involved. He had the choice to go left or right. He chose to go right, but had he went left, he probably wouldn’t be here right now. He grew up doing what was right derived from his step-father molding and shaping him into the man he is today. Unknown to him of what his future was holding, at 22 L-Smooth was blessed with a son for whom he continues to walk the straight and narrow road to provide him a better life.
