Bio
Kyp Harness has created 11 independent albums over 22 years. Eye Magazine has accused him of "songwriting genius"; Exclaim! magazine states "he has created a songbook which should rightly be regarded as a national treasure". He has opened for Elvis Costello, been called "a great writer" by Daniel Lanois, Ron Sexsmith names him as his favourite songwriter, Mary Margaret O'Hara has covered one of his songs, and he has shared the stage with Townes Van Zandt; he has also played the Winnipeg, Calgary and Mariposa Folk Festivals. "A Toronto version of a Nick Cave or a Lucinda Williams...he's a stone genius" the CBC has said. Originally from Sarnia, Ontario, Harness makes music that tells stories, whether singing a stark folk ballad or rocking with a band. His latest album was 2012's two albums in one 'The Wrong Way/Can a Poor Man Get a Fair Trial?', of which Herohill.com stated "He's as smart and natural a writer as our nation has to offer" and Bob Mersereau of the CBC said "wickedly funny a little spooky and captivating straight through...you like fine writing? Kyp's your guy."
