Kara Koser has been writing songs since she was nine years old and has always dreamt of following in the footsteps of strong female-led sensations: such as Paramore, No Doubt, and Fleetwood Mac. Early on she identified challenges with mental health, including debilitating bouts of performance anxiety and substance use disorder.
Even though this made pursuing music extremely difficult, she would still sing, write, and compete. In 2018, she openly found sobriety, which unironically led her to a 3-month-long singing contest; the most difficult of its kind and the first time she’d take the stage sober. A surprised, exhausted, and grateful Koser finished with first place. Read More... - Brent Porche

Dan and Kara Koser bond immediately over being fellow loudmouths, and their love of the Norristown Zoo, of all things. Kara talks about growing up and trying to find her place as a singer and performer, getting sober and figuring out how to be a musician again, singing contests, skipping an entire line of the National Anthem during a performance once, and how moving to Manayunk (not her first choice, initially) changed everything. She met the guys who would end up being her band, Koser, at the Grape Street Pub open mic, and has finally been able to create the music she's had in her head. Their newest EP, appropriately titled 'loudmouth soup', is out wherever you get digital music. Follow the band on their mailing list to keep up on all their comings and goings. - Dan Drago

In the heart of Philadelphia’s vibrant music scene emerges KOSER, a five-piece powerhouse of multi-instrumentalists turning heads and amplifiers with their electrifying rock anthem, “MiNT.” Fronted by the charismatic Kara Koser, this act isn’t just a band; they’re a sonic force, known for high-energy performances that leave audiences buzzing. “MiNT” isn’t your average rock track – it’s a sonic whirlwind that kicks off with raw, unapologetic chords, setting the stage for a musical journey led by Kara’s powerhouse vocals. The track is a rebellious anthem, a fusion of bold instrumentals and fearless lyrics that showcase KOSER’s distinctive sound.
As KOSER sets their sights on fresh tracks for their sophomore project, they’re on the lookout for a booking agent and manager to join them on this musical adventure. With a dedication to artistic excellence and a reputation as the show closer in local lineups, KOSER is primed to take their rock ethos to new heights. So, if you’re a music aficionado craving an adrenaline shot or a professional in the industry ready to amplify this sonic force, dive into “MiNT” and join KOSER on their journey. The stage is set, and the call to action is clear – let the rock revolution begin! - Certified Bop INC.
Per their Spotify bio, Koser are a newborn Philly five-piece, with a queer and sober frontwoman alongside Philly’s danciest virtuosos. While maybe not officially newborn (their first single online is from 2019), the group dropped their debut EP just last year. Mixing sounds of alternative rock, R&B, soul and a dabbling of other influences, the band comes with a unique sound that spits on classification.
The song of theirs that first caught my ear is the undeniable “MiNT”. The track almost tricks you with its delicate, indie-rock intro, cause when the sultry, R&B-esque vocals come in with the power chords, the song pushes into bigger pop-rock stations. On the chorus, the vocals shoot towards full-on soul, while a Thin Lizzy guitar solo drops a groove bomb. It doesn’t take long to realize this is a very catchy song that could have played as well in the heyday of Fleetwood Mac as it does today. - B. Liebman
Kara “Koser” has been honing her genre-flexible writing/recording skills since she first discovered her mother’s karaoke machine could record sound! From cassette tapes to built-in laptop mics to professional studios, Koser has always found creative ways to achieve warm, unique sounds. Koser served as the national anthem vocalist for Temple University Athletics during her time in college. She even sang the national anthem for 40,000 people as a prize for winning WI105 radio's Fall Fest Star; as the first non-country artist to take the title. Koser has opened for many national artists, including rap sensation Mobb Deep. Koser co-found Philly pop/reggae band ReddPanda, seen on-air by networks like WFMZ and Good Day PA. After recording the EP "Stranded" and performing at festivals like "West Chester Restaurant Fest" and "Turks Head Music Fest", it was clear that Koser had more experimenting to do beyond the scope of her work with ReddPanda. In March 2019, Koser entered one of Philly's longest running singing contests, Songbird Philly. It was three grueling months against some of Philly's top vocalists. She took home 1st! Since then Koser has: become one of Q102's Best New Artists, launched a creative networking platform "Singing With Strangers", has been the chosen featured artist for many RECPhilly events, and a part of Prominent Millennial Feminine Voices at The Kimmel Center. In 2022 Koser formed a band, full of Philly's danciest virtuosos! After being together for only two months, they landed a gig at Dinah Music Festival in California. Currently, the band performs all over the tristate area, working on their debut album. This project truly harnesses all of the creative power Koser has collected in this journey so far... and now she gets to share that with four mega talented multi-instrumentalists. - wfmztv69
