It took me a couple listens but I’ve decided that I really, really enjoy this band Kismet. They’re from Boston, home of the Bruins (YAY! SSSSPORTZ!) and they don’t give a fuck about the traditional band setup. They feature the male-female vocal shotgun shells and they have a cello and upright bass, because they’re influences aren’t confined to Bob Dylan and Mumford, like your traditional acoustic band. Nah, these guys and dolls (fantastic musical) are musicians, real musicians, and they prove that beyond any shadow of a doubt on this triple-threat EP. Quaint, haunting and simply smothered in smooth talent, Kismet are on a steady rise. You can grab these new singles for free, as well as their other shit at the link above. - Ryan Saar, SoundlySounds (Australia!)

Kismet
Band submission. Kismet are a four-piece acoustic indie folk band from Boston, Massachusetts. I was pleasantly surprised when I heard this, since it's a style of music that I love, but don't really do any posts on. So a big thank you to them for sending this to me. Though this band is certainly guitar-based, they incorporate cello and upright bass into each song, which sounds amazing. The vocals are excellent, as well. They're usually harmonized between a guy and a girl, which sound quite pleasing together. They sing softly and gently, and both have naturally great tones to their voice. I don't know what else I can say besides I love it. The guitar does a really good job at balancing the use of both finger-picking and strumming full chords, and even throws in some almost abrasive slide playing on "Spring." The upright bass and cello sound perfect, as expected, but they also know exactly what to play and when to come. It doesn't come off as being plainly structured and obvious, though. Rather, it compliments the song and builds it up to include other dynamics. I know I'm just rambling now. The point is, CHECK THIS OUT. - Sophie's Floorboard
New Singles is the sophomore release from Boston indie folk group Kismet. The band of Ellie Perez, Jon Kohen, Roman Soto and Nathaniel Sabat tease us with three tracks of superlative beauty. The Mumfortization of acoustic music has been a major disappointment, with band after band jumping on that lame bandwagon. Kismet save us from this trend by making music that is fresh and original. With influences from Elliot Smith to Bon Iver, the band show us that acoustic music can once again shine in a meaningful creative light. Bio
Kismet is a folk quartet from Boston featuring cello and upright bass. They play acoustic music based on roots folk with a haunting yet uplifting sound.
With harmonized vocals, cello, upright bass, guitar, and piano, the band creates a quiet, calming atmosphere through their music - entirely unique to their own style. Kismet manages to capture substantial concepts through simple lyrics.
Although they are a new band, Kismet has hit the ground running. They just completed a summer tour of several weeks from Philadelphia, to New York City, up to Providence and back to their home base, Boston. Over the summer, the band took part in Lowell Folk Festival.
The band has many influences, a few of which would include: Elliott Smith, Simon and Garfunkel, Bob Dylan, Milk Carton Kids, Radiohead, T.S. Eliot, and Kurt Vonnegut.
