KIRA
Whether, KIRA is writing or performing or working as a community support worker and/or running her own childcare business, her energy is infectious to those around her. Born and raised in Kamloops B.C, KIRA found her love for performing at a very early age and studied music and theatre for 8 years before beginning her professional career as the lead singer of the band Soul Patch, playing over 100 shows a year for several years with this dynamic funk/R&B act.
Presently, KIRA is found either leading her 6 piece world fusion dance band Earthbound (www.earthboundmusic.ca), or performing her solo material of which she is currently finishing her debut solo album (www.kiramusic.ca). Featuring songs that have a positive message, and an edgy and truthful mixture of pop, rock, folk/roots, and urban groove, KIRA has been described as, "Nora Jones meets Annie Lennox (97.5 The River’s Ara Andonian).
On back up vocals and acoustic guitar and piano, long time musical partner, Evan Wilds makes the song delivery complete and satisfying. KIRA has a presence that is demanding and a voice and writing style that is mature, dynamic and edgy. This was validated by Earthbound’s win as Best New Artist/Group 2007 and nominated KIRA as Best Female Artist at the BCIMA’s.
From nature to nurture, one thing is for sure, KIRA was meant to perform and deliver, KIRA says “I’ve always known that my most basic and innate purpose in life is to to sing in a way that empowers and encourages. …Whenever I have lost my way I have reminded myself of one thing, I am voice”!
KIRA’s voice has been heard on many stages now, from WCT’s Musical Production, “Little Shop of Horrors”, Salmon Arm Roots and Blues Festival, Kelowna Blues Fest, Kelowna Life and Arts Festival, Komasket Music Festival, Celebrate Canada Day-Kamloops, as well as opening with Earthbound for Colin James, BCIMA’s 2008 performing artist and a 3 time recording artist, KIRA is here to stay! “there is quite simply no other road for me” says KIRA.
KIRA and Earthbound have been pleased with their single tracks being rotated across Canada by several radio stations and especially with the support of radio stations 98.3 (Maggie Knows and Touched), CFBX, B-100 (Touched and Find Yourself), 97.5 (Invisible and Letting Go) and CBC for airplay of the single “Maggie Knows”.
