I’m always on a mission to find the next big band to unleash on the world, and currently, that band is Jersey’s own, Kid Felix. This six-piece rock band hails from Laurel Springs- a small town that many of you BTB readers probably have never heard of until now. Well, Kid Felix’s about to change all that. With one EP under their belt already, they are set to release an explosive new record on October 20th called Young Luck, and this very well may be the one that gets them to the top.
They have only been a band for a little over a year, but have already played major festivals including The Vans Warped Tour and Bamboozle, and even have radio play in the tri-state area. They’re original, fresh, and full of raw talent. Their live set is also one you do not want to miss, for they get the crowd going like no other. When you cover artists as broad as Incubus to Muse to Florence and the Machine, you know you are a band that can pretty much play anything and make it sound good.
I am not asking you to get to know this band. I am demanding it. Check out their social media and tour dates to can catch them now before they start selling out arenas.
In the meantime, you can watch a live performance of one of their new tracks, Wait, below.
Enjoy. - Bigger Than Beyonce

For having entered the music scene in May 2011, Kid Felix has sure been making a name for themselves. With sounds like those of Kings of Leon, Foo Fighters, and Brand New, they’re sure to hit a chord on most everyone’s chart. The six member band from Laurel Springs, New Jersey has done a lot in a short time. The release of their first EP, Head Above Water, in November 2011, gained them enough recognition for them to compete in the 2012 Hard Rock Rising Global Battle of the Bands, where they won the Grand Prize regional finalists. The band has also played at Bamboozle and the Vans Warped Tour.
Kid Felix, managed by Zac Tait, is Jake Falana (vocals), John Ambrutis (lead guitar), Brett Hagen (guitar), Julian Ungerer (bass), Ken Baxter (keyboards), and John Szachewicz (drums). Their next upcoming show will be in Brooklyn, New York at XPO 929, August 25 at 9 p.m. Be sure to like them on their FaceBook page: https://www.facebook.com/kidfelix - Muze Magazine
Philadelphia-based rock band Kid Felix first gained attention after the release of their début EP ‘Head Above Water’ in November 2011 which subsequently led to them playing both Bamboozle and the prestigious Warped Tour. Any band wanting to make it can do no wrong running in those kinds of circles. New EP ‘Young Luck’ contains five tracks of slick guitar-driven pop-rock/grunge. The lyrics are well thought out and there’s a real display of skill shown by this 6-piece.
‘Alone Now’ kicks proceedings off and is awash with lush sounds; from the dainty Brand New styling of the guitar work and the subtle hints towards Minus The Bear along with the impressive rhythm work, all whilst vocalist Jake Falana croons like a young Eddy Vedder on heat. Third track ‘100 Years On’ starts off like a slowed down Muse B-side, thankfully after the first 20 seconds or so this all changes. From this track it is clear that the band are big fans of Pearl Jam, it sounds bluesy as hell. Again, a special mention must go to Falana and his impressive set of pipes. as well as his lyrics. This doesn’t sound like the kind of song you’d hear from a band in their infancy. The track is mature and even the keyboard work is fitting and adds to the overall feel of the song. It is clear a lot of thought has gone into the song writing process.
Penultimate track ‘Wait’ has us wondering whether we’re listening to an unheard Incubus track. This is certainly not a bad thing, it’s a well known fact Brandon Boyd can sing, and clearly so can Jake Falana (but we’ve mentioned that right?) Everything about this song is great! The way it builds in the chorus, the subtle rhythm work, the break down around the 3:00 minute mark and the way it erupts. This song was written for much larger stages. It benefits from the slick production work obviously, something which is evident throughout all five tracks on ‘Young Luck’.
Closing track ‘The Day After’ is a piano-led affair. Without sounding sloppy and making lazy comparisons it has an air of Something Corporate about it without being too poppy and irritating. A simple marching drum drives the track up until it completely explodes and sounds like the closing song from a blockbuster movie. It’s huge and in your face without relying on gimmicky nonsense. If you’re a fan of big hooks and guitar-driven pop-rock with more melody than you can handle, then Kid Felix should definitely be the next band you listen to. Some might say they’re 20 years too late for the whole grunge thing, but we think they may be on to something if these five tracks are anything to go by.
Overall this EP receives a well deserved 4/5. Ones to watch!

Bio
After forming in May 2011, Kid Felix quickly began to make themselves known within the Philadelphia music scene. They released their first EP the following November called Head Above Water, and with its success they secured a spot performing at Bamboozle 2012.
Dubbed Indie rock with a classic rock soul, Kid Felix consists of Jake Falana (vocals), John Ambrutis (lead guitar), Brett Hagen (guitar), Julian Ungerer (bass), Ken Baxter (keyboards), and John Szachewicz (drums), the band uses its unique structure to produce an indie style rock with modern melodies over carefully orchestrated and layered instrumentals. They have been compared to bands such as Kings of Leon, Brand New, and Pearl Jam.
Gaining national exposure as the regional finalists of the 2012 Hard Rock Rising Global Battle of the Bands, as well as playing both Bamboozle and the Warped Tour, Kid Felix was recently able to catch the ear of 93.3 WMMR midday DJ, Jaxon. Jaxon named the band “WMMR Artists of the Month” on his station and played their entire first EP throughout the month of August.
In October 2012 Kid Felix released their second EP “Young Luck” to a crowd of 600+ at the Theatre of the Living Arts in Philly. The band impressed enough to land a set at the Electric Factory on New Years Eve as the main support for the band Octane.
