Bio
Written at the age of 18, recorded at 19, and released not long after turning 20, Of Whom I Am reflects Kevin Morrison’s mature, distinctive sound which meanders down a modern folk path laden with a plentiful dosage of melodic guitar playing.
The greater Long Beach, California area has played home and host to Morrison’s musical process, including the recording and release of his debut album. Under the wing of uncle and producer Andrew Morrison, the two have fully captured the subtleties of acoustic narratives, like the stand-out track “Company”, a mature rendition of transition in one’s life, to the raw energy of “Hold On”, which bares close kinship to artists like Ryan Adams and The Counting Crows. With the addition of intricate guitar work interlaced through the album, including the epic buildup of songs like “North”, Morrison’s sound is reminiscent of his influences; the mellow, dark meandering of Nick Drake to modern-day jam bands like The Black Crowes. This earthy concoction of one part player, two parts song-writer (which has been known to occasionally trade doses in a live setting) lends itself to listeners and musicians alike. “This record is a collection of points in my life tied together with the opportunity for me to be a guitar player- the title really bears it all.”
Currently splitting his time between Southern California and Seattle’s own University of Washington, Kevin Morrison has taken the road less traveled, and early in his career has set himself apart from his contemporaries. From sun to rain and back, Morrison is rapidly spreading his music up and down the west coast.
