Singer and songwriter Kelvin Frazier Ph.D is definitely not your typical artist. After graduating from M.I.T. (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) with a PhD in Physical Chemistry and deciding to teach Organic Chemistry as an Adjunct Professor Kelvin could never ignore his first love which is music. This would explain why Kelvin decided to double major in Science and Music while attending Savannah State University. So Kelvin Frazier, Ph.D is not just his stage name; it’s his real name with a real title. Rolling Out recently caught up with Kelvin to find out how he successfully created an EP titled “Conquered All” that peaked in 25th position on the Billboard Adult R&B Charts and received FM Broadcast and Satellite Radio airplay across 29 stations nationally. Check out our conversation:
The “Still Marked and Scarred” song is so passionate. Was the video based on a real situation?
The lyrics were actually based off of the death of my grandmother. I was expressing me being in the hospital with my grandmother and how I felt when we hugged and I knew she was hugging me for the last time. The next day she went on life support and she pretty much stayed on it until she passed away. I didn’t really know it was going to be the last time but it was something about the way she hugged me. However, when they were doing the treatment for the video, they weren’t going to depict her the way I remembered her, so that’s how we came up with the concept of a breakup.
How did you manage to become a chemist as your secular career and a successful artist?
Everything I invest my time in, I do it to the best of my ability because I feel like if I give it a half effort, then you get half the results. It’s the same thing for both worlds. Like when I was getting my Ph.D., you have to be very detail-oriented for you to increase your skills. If you try and present a paper and all those details aren’t there, the paper gets thrown out. They will tear you down like, “You don’t even know the basics? Get out of my face. You are not even worth my time.” That’s just how how society is. Once you get up to the level where you are trying to get your Ph.D., you have to be very precise. Same difference in the music world when you are creating a song. You must be detailed and precise for it to be acceptable and successful. That’s also exactly how I treated putting my EP together.
So which one is your first love?
Definitely my first love would be the music. It actually happened in high school. I was a senior in high school. It was time for me to graduate. I had to start thinking about college. So, I was like I am going to major in music. All of my friends were like are you crazy. You are too smart to go to college to major in music. I was like it’s not about that it’s about my passion. So when I went to Savannah State, I double majored in chemistry and music. You definitely have to be disciplined and focused.
So how do you balance the two on a daily?
I would say it’s like a seasonal thing. Sometimes there’s a lot of science going on and sometimes there is a lot of music going on. Then there are times when there is a lot of both of them going on at the same time. During those time periods, I’m not getting more than four hours of sleep per day.
How did it make you feel when your album peaked in 25th position on the Billboard Adult R&B chart?
I was literally in shock. It happened the day before my 30th birthday. It’s like you put your mind to it and then when it really happens it’s like I can’t believe it happened. I’m totally grateful; it’s truly a blessing and in my mind I’m like ok, what’s next? I don’t know what’s next but I am going to keep pushing until I figure it out. This is all a blessing. I’m going to continue on with this blessing and keep sharing my story. Anyone that hears about my story I hope they understand I’m literally like a normal guy that has a dream accompanied by hard work and motivation. Pretty much, my top three things that taught me to be successful: the first is God, second is family and third is hard work. If I can have those three combinations together, then I’m like a force. I have my family and they are here like “We are here to support you,” and that means a lot. There were many a night when I was at M.I.T. where I felt like walking away and saying y’all can have all this. But prayer kept me there. Sometimes, people don’t want to put the work in because they are afraid of failing. When you put doubt in your head, you are like defeating yourself.

But Kevin never forgot his passion of music. Upon graduating from MIT with a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry, he was invited to perform a solo act at the world famous Amateur Night at the Apollo in New York City.
In May 2016, Kelvin moved to Los Angeles to pursue his music career. He’s been making an impact ever since, and now is charting with a dramatic new single called “Marked and Scarred.” It is a strong follow up to his hit “Conquer All” and another song that should expand the audience of this talented singer.

Don’t let the fact that Kelvin Frazier is a doctor fool you, the man was born to sing. Evidence of that is apparent on his new single “Conquer All”, which is a traditional r&b ballad and standout vocal performance.
The track speaks to love and compassion; two things we can certainly use more of in today’s world. The singer added about the song:
“This track speaks to my character of showing love in a world that seems to forget about love. If we start to remember to show love to one another, we will have more unity instead of so much divide and hatred.”
While he continues to craft his upcoming EP, he also performs with the CaliWorship Mass Choir. The collective has sung backup for Grammy Award-winning singers such as Tina Campbell, Erica Campbell, and Grammy nominee singer Anthony Brown.

Kelvin Frazier is a terrific talent all the way from Savannah, Georgia. Marked And Scarred serves as Frazier’s debut offering and OMG it’s literally amazing. This succulent single is drenched with plenty of soulful R&B goodness and Frazier’s entrancing vocal tones were buttery smooth. The mesmerising Marked And Scarred is a chilled out track which is extremely pleasant on the ear.
I was captivated the moment I heard this wondrous cut, those well written lyrics left me utterly enthralled and Frazier’s vibrant vocals were incredibly relaxing. In fact Marked And Scarred is an emotional R&B tinged ballad with lyrics which focus on the loss of a loved one “This hole in my heart/ Where your love used to be/ I don’t understand how or why/ But I ain’t gotta face reality/ They say in time you’ll heal/ I wonder if that’s the truth”. With words like that makes you think either that the loss is a break up or a death.
Kelvin isn’t just an incredible musician, he’s also a chemist, professor, consultant and entrepreneur. Also Frazier has a Ph D in Physical Chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) . Now based in Los Angeles, Kelvin is the only musician that I know with the Ph D title at the end of his name.
Aside from that Kelvin Frazier is an intriguing individual and I for one cannot wait to hear more impeccable originals from him in the future. In fact Kelvin plans to release an EP this Autumn. - Music is my Radar

VENTS Alumni Kelvin Frazier, Ph. D. is back on our site with an exclusive premiere for the video of his very touching, 90s R&B infused single “Marked and Scarred”. The song is about the loss of love, and how it can be prudent to remember the fond memories as opposed to the bad ones, in order to move forward. Carried entirely by his full-bodied vocals, this track serves as the perfect sample of Frazier‘s R&B sound. The video follows these themes in a very cinematic way as we follow Kelvin dealing with a complicated relationship that wraps up in an unexpected way.
About the song, Kelvin comments:
“This video speaks about love loss where you can’t keep that special someone out of your mind leaving you Marked and Scarred.”

Kelvin Frazier PhD ’15 first tried to double major in chemistry and music in college, but ended up choosing math and chemistry over music.
However, he was still able to pursue his passion for music extracurricularly by participating in choir and band. When Frazier found that he was the only black student in his graduate classes at MIT, he joined the Academy of Courageous Minority Engineers and eventually became the president of both ACME and of the Black Graduate Students’ Association.
After graduating from MIT, Frazier found a brief stint at a consulting firm but eventually decided to restart his career as an R&B singer-songwriter. An independent label later discovered him, and now his new single, “Marked and Scarred,” has appeared on the Top 40 Urban AC radio charts and on the Sirius XM “Heart and Soul” national radio station. - The Tech
WE RECENTLY HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET TO KNOW THE INCREDIBLY SOULFUL AND UNDENIABLY AMBITIOUS KELVIN FRAZIER, PH.D.
Upon learning about the multi-talented Kelvin Frazier, Ph.D, it became immediately apparent that this remarkable artist wears many hats. Artist is just one of the many labels you can give Frazier. Impressively, Kelvin is a true renaissance man, holding the titles of Chemist, Technology Consultant, and Entrepreneur—- as well as insanely gifted artist. This is one of the many examples of what makes this artist so interesting.
Musically, Kelvin has effectively unleashed his wide-spanning musical tastes and influences into a giant boiling caldron, seasoned with style and flair — and much like a mad scientist, he has stirred ferociously until what has emerged is unrecognizable — an infectious monstrosity of incredible, emotive sound. Kelvin has been steadily gaining notoriety for his distinct flavor of soul-infused, throw-back R&B sound. His remarkable versatility is always on full display. The impressive accompanying instrumentation, creative sequencing, masterful songwriting are undeniably alluring and captivating. His soothing vocal prowess draws you into an authentic and emotional sonic journey.
It is an unfortunate reality in the current world of music crafted by today’s generation. It seems as if fearless, ambitious artists are becoming more and more rare and undiscovered. This is mostly due to an unapologetic desire by most new-coming artists to shamelessly reach into existing successful markets, void of any integrity, and follow an incredibly safe musical formula of commercially appealing and catchy copy of a copy Singles.
When approaching nearly all newly independent-released music, it’s hard to do so without inherent cynicism and skepticism. It has become tiresome and mundane within the current culture of Pop dominated music. We, as listeners, are continuously exposed to these same formulaic, cookie-cutter, brand of artists. Although these types of artists have brilliantly perfected the ability to produce safe, catchy, and infectious music; they ultimately amount to being entirely forgettable, soon to be replaced by the next musical doppelgänger. This trend has infected almost every musical appendage and genre, whether it be commercially produced or independently released. The most unfortunate result of this trend is the stifling of musical ambition and the lack of innovation to set oneself apart in the industry.
While this approach may work well if your goal as an artist is to make fast cash, albeit becoming forgettable, it certainly isn’t the winning formula for industry longevity and lasting notoriety.
In a refreshing twist, the undeniably fearless and refreshingly authentic Kelvin Frazier, Ph.D is fiercely rebelling against this trend and quickly emerging as an R&B/Soul sensation.
Kelvin Frazier, Ph.D is quickly proving that with his addictive, unique, and emotionally authentic style; music, as an artistic medium, can transcend the label of “commodity” and “one-dimensional”, becoming something much more intimate and immersive.
With independent recording continually growing more affordable and accessible than it ever has been; the industry is quickly becoming over-saturated with hobbyists and fame-seekers. Due to this, it is becoming ever-harder to be noticed within the endless sea of independent noise. The number of new artists entering the industry every day is growing exponentially. With this increase in industry competition, you’d think there would be a “standard” for things you shouldn’t do if you’re trying to become noticed and successful. Unfortunately, this is not the case…in fact, it seems that a vast majority of new artists have taken the lazy route —- copy those whom are more successful than you. You would think that this competitive environment would inspire some artists to go against the grain and carve out their own identity, but this is too often not the case.
This is precisely what makes this artist such a remarkable and respectable act.
Kelvin Frazier, Ph.D has developed a sound that feels entirely fresh and new. This brilliant artist not only acts as a unique innovator; but also effectively channels his vision through an impressive command of the R&B/Soul genre. Avoiding the gimmick he could easily become; Kelvin stands out among an overpopulated market as a fearless and honest artist with a story to tell.
The audio production exhibited in the freshly released “Marked and Scarred” is nothing short of spectacular. This is especially remarkable considering the music itself is ferociously dynamic and unrestrained; we imagine this must have been very challenging to mix. Each layer within the Single is uniquely stunning, with each immersive layer given space to breath and evolve. The genre is a brilliant fusion of Kelvin’s influences, with this artist sculpting his own self-defining soundscape. Kelvin’s vocal prowess brilliantly shines on this track. Furthermore, the track is fantastically sequenced in a way that maintains the listener’s interest, and contains minor mixing and instrumental intricacies that are both unique and add undeniable character to the sound.
Listening to both “Conquer All” and “Marked and Scarred” was truly an engaging and worthwhile experience. This differs from most recent independent releases in that it is fearlessly ambitious and unapologetically unique and difficult to label perfectly. Each track oozes with integrity, honesty, and venom. Not only are they polished and meticulously crafted, but they’re sequenced to perfection, leaving the listener wanting more. We can definitely see this artist climbing the ranks and becoming a household name, while inspiring a new generation of independent artists.
Kelvin Frazier, Ph.D is a true renaissance man and is definitely a breath of fresh air within a tired music industry that has become overly saturated with copycat artists whose sole goal is to cash in on an increasingly uninventive formula. This is an artist that you simply CAN’T IGNORE! - Screaming Match Productions
Kelvin Frazier, Ph.D. is a musician, chemist, professor, consultant and entrepreneur. With neo-soul, R&B and 90/80s hip-hop sub-genres making a major come back in modern urban music, it is no surprise that an artist such as Kelvin Frazier, will find his place in the industry. Frazier’s voice is undeniably lovely. It’s a dripping, sensual and sparkling taste of R&B’s heyday. Easy on the eyes, honey to the ears and blessed with a vocal range that can go from the dance floor to a devotional, Frazier is ready to become a genre mainstay in the near future.
His singing style is refreshing reminder of past R&B balladeers, as his voice moves effortlessly between a gritty baritone and a sweet tenor. This makes him stand out amongst his counterparts and allows the titanic production the potential to develop a track centered on his stellar vocals. An opportunity which Frazier does not let to go begging.
Traditional soul and modern elements of R&B wrapped in equal measures of sensuality, spiritual edges and being gifted – successfully conveying one aspect is challenging enough, but Kelvin Frazier has managed to implement them all here.
Education and inspiration can certainly help, but it takes genuine aptitude to build a buzz with a single and release a fresh, yet familiar track like “Marked and Scarred”. His ambitions aren’t to reinvent R&B, but to expand its range and relevance, a goal Frazier has certainly met.
In the last year, a few emerging artists have been reviving R&B music, a genre that has long suffered from low commercial support. Now Kelvin Frazier, a fresh voice born out of Savannah, GA, is looking to make his own mark on the art form. “Marked and Scarred”, a tear-stained heart-breaker, is a stunning yet understated debut entrant that doubles down on some of the best elements of R&B and gives them a fresh coat of paint.
As a whole “Marked and Scarred” feels like the work of a music lover who let loose to make the music of his own dreams. The foundation of the song is rooted in tried and true R&B, all infectious hooks and simple bass lines. Frazier stays squarely in his lane, filling the track with emotion and sounds that never wander too far from a strings, piano and drums framework.
It’s an impressive feat for an artist’s first offering. Whereas most recording newcomers are struggling to find their voice or molding themselves to match other popular artists, Kelvin Frazier displays the high level of musicianship and maturity of a seasoned artist. He pulls from a wide range of influences, from jazz to classic soul to gospel, for the recording.
His love song is demure compared to what is common in popular music; there’s no explicit language or boasting about his sexual prowess. Instead, Frazier strikes a longing chord, seemingly desperate and hurting for the person he cares for – “They say in time you’ll heal. I wonder if that’s the truth. I want you in my life, but I got to say goodbye. I’m marked and scarred, not able to see you.”
Instead of banking on trendy production or gimmicks, the real star of the album is Frazier’s voice. He uses his gift with measured precision, confident enough in his ability to find strength in restraint, and just a flash of bellowed angst. Kelvin Frazier, Ph.D. honors the forefathers of R&B not by emulating them, but by carrying on their legacy. It’s a charge Frazier clearly takes to heart, and “Marked and Scarred” is a prime example of the greatness that can be achieved as a result. - Jamsphere

Learn more about Kelvin Frazier in the following All Access interview:
Thanks for your time! So where does this interview find you? What’s on tap for the rest of your day?
Thanks for featuring me! Right now my single “Marked and Scarred” is approaching the top 30 at mediabase/billboard and I am on the brink of getting a patent for developing a technology that determines the quality of water as well.
Overall, how do you think 2017 was for you and your career? What are you most excited about for this year? What is one big goal you have for 2018?
2017 was crazy! I had 4 different jobs (Technology Consulting Position, Post-Doctoral Research Position, Adjunct Chemistry Faculty Position at the College/University Level, and R&D Electrochemist). This wasn’t done on purpose, but during this time I was trying to find myself. What helped me through it all was music. Completing my EP made everything worthwhile for me in 2017 because it took me 29 years to get to that point. I am most excited about how well my single is charting for it to be my first ever single as an independent artist. My goal for 2018 is to start touring both nationally and internationally.
Growing up, did you ever think that this would be the kind of life that you would have? Has music always been a big part of your life? Can you recall your first ever musical experience?
I knew I would be doing music growing up. Music has always been my first love. What I didn’t expect was to have a second love of science and having the ability to balance the two. My first musical experience was at my church in Clyo, GA where my grandmother was the director of the choir. Seeing her ability to lead and sing lead as a self taught musician gave me the courage to go after my passion of music. I knew music was in my blood. I just needed to tap into it.
How do you think growing up in your hometown has influenced your sound and who you are as a musician?
Down south we have a strong influence of traditional gospel music. I have been singing that style all my life. In my music, people have asked me if I grew up singing in the church because they could hear it. I love singing songs that speaks to the soul, which makes my gospel influence fit nicely with my style.
Let’ s talk about your newest track, “Marked + Scarred.” What was the inspiration for this song? How do you think it shows how you have grown and developed as an artist over the years? What about your track “Conquer All”? How did that come together?
“Marked and Scarred” was inspired by the death of my grandmother. It’s a song that general speaks about love loss which happens in various ways and encourages people to remember the good times as you look back on your love experience. Writing this song was difficult, but the topic was something everyone deals with and made a foundation of the type of artist I want to be. I want to speak to the soul of my listeners and give a word of encouragement. “Conquer All” speaks the same message. No matter what you may be encountering, with love we will conquer all. That is the mind set I have with everything I do. Your love could be a significant other or one of your passions for your career. The song “Conquer All” was written by my friend, Crystal Glover. We have been best friends for over 25 years, so she knows what type of message best represents me.
Generally, how do you go about putting songs together these days? Are you constantly being inspired by life around you?
I listen to a song and think back to my life experiences where the song takes me. Then I start writing like poetry to describe those memories and go back to my team to start thinking about melodies to go with the lyrics. Life is so much like a roller coaster, not knowing where your path will take with unexpected turns, drops and lifts. All of those moments constantly inspires me to share them with the world with my music.
I am curious to know more about what really got you to take a detour on your musical path by pursuing your doctorate? Was it difficult to make that huge step? Do you ever have any regrets in the timing of it all?
The detour came from financial stability, plus making music cost money. I knew if I wanted to put out professional quality work, I needed the money to support it. Yes, it was difficult at first; however when I thought about it that way and promised myself to stay involved with music by singing in the choir, I finally felt like I was making the right decision. One thing I know I have is patience. My time will come. No, I don’t regret the decision. I learned so much about myself while getting my doctorate. Going through a rigorous program like MIT empowered me to feel like a survivor where I can achieve anything I put my mind to.
Do you find that after everything is said and done, that you enjoy spending time doing one thing over the other the most today?
It’s all about balance and time management. I think I do this pretty well and enjoy myself during the day. I maybe tired at times, but I am still having a blast.
Where do you find that you sing the most these days, in the shower, in the car, in the studio or elsewhere?
I sing mostly between my church choir at California Worship Center and the studio.
Where can fans see you perform next? What do you think makes for an ideal concert for you?
I will be performing two gigs in Los Angeles at Bar 20 on Sunset Blvd March 16th and at Molly Malone’s on S. Fairfax Ave March 31st. All of my latest performance announcements can be found on my website as well http://www.kelvinfrazier.com/.
We are living through a very trying and politically charged time right now so I am curious how you think being a musician gives you the most joy in life today? How do you think that music is going to reflect these challenging times?
We express these changes in the lyrics of our music. That is exactly what I did in the track “Conquer All” as well. It speaks about the world being divide where it seems like there is no one willing to fight. The innocent are dying yet the corrupt are still breathing. However, remember to show love to one another and with that we will conquer all these injustice.
Who are some of your favorite artists or rather, what musicians have continued to inspire you and your music? What musicians would you absolutely still love to work with in the future?
John Legend, Luke James, Stevie Wonder, Fantasia Barrino, and Mary Mary are some of my favorite artists. I would love to work with John Legend or Fantasia Barrino.
What do you hope your fans take away from your music?
I hope they learn who Kelvin is and to take my life experiences to be of encouragement.
Would you like to share anything else with our readers?
Thank you for spending the time reading to learn about me. I have both music and scientific projects in progress, so stay tuned to see what else is to come. - All Access Music
The Los Angeles-based, singer-songwriter, KELVIN FRAZIER, is currently making waves Stateside with his single 'Marked And Scarred'. The tune's a heavy R&B ballad that allows Kelvin to show off his gospel–reared range... he's currently a member of CaliWorship Mass Choir which has sang backup for Grammy Award-winning singers such as Tina Campbell, Erica Campbell and Grammy nominee singer Anthony Brown.
'Marked And Scarred' is one of 5 cuts on Mr F's soon to be released EP, 'Conquer All' on Top Notch Records. The other four tracks plough a similar sonic furrow.... that's to say they're all love ballads with, I think, a Brian McKnight flavour about them. The breathy '1+1' is the most interesting in the way that it's been stripped back allowing the voice to do all the work.
By the way, if Kelvin's singing career doesn't take off, he can always go back to his original career. The young man has a Ph D in Chemistry and a research career beckoned before music came a-calling! - Soul and Jazz and Funk

You may ask, why is a Chemist who graduated from M.I.T. (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) with a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry recording and releasing music?
Well, when you have a love for this worldly expressive art form called music, there are no titles or degrees in life that can prevent you from cultivating and expressing your creativity.
Kelvin Frazier, Ph.D. gives us a look into his first love with the release of the music video for “Marked and Scarred,” a song from his Conquer All EP, which peaked at the 25th position on the Billboard Adult R&B Songs Chart. In the visual, the Los Angeles based singer and songwriter bring the somber lyrics to life as he mulls over the memories of lost love.
As Kelvin pursues his passion as an R&B musician, he also works as an R&D Electrochemist, teaches Organic Chemistry as an Adjunct Professor, and sits on the board of directors for two non-profits.

Savannah, GA native songwriter and singer who goes by the name, Kelvin Frazier, Ph.D is definitely not your typical artist in the music business. After graduating from Savannah State University with a double major in Music and Science it’s not surprising that Kelvin went on to M.I.T (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and graduated earning his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry. What is surprising is the incredible way Frazier is able to balance his music career and release an amazing EP titled “Conquer All” which peaked at the 25th position on the Billboard Adult R&B Songs Chart received FM Broadcast and Satellite Radio airplay across 29 stations nationally.
This is a very passionate song and from the video you would think it’s about a breakup but according to Frazier he explained the following about how the video came about
The lyrics expressed when I was at the hospital with my grandmother and when she hugged me I felt like that would be the last time I would embrace her. The next day she went on life support and she pretty much stayed on it until she passed away. I wrote the song carrying all the emotions of that moment. So when we were ready to shoot the video as they were going over the treatment they were not going to depict my grandmother the way I remembered her so I was like let’s just go with treatment idea number 2.

Known as the Ph.D of POP, he is also an accomplished graduate with a Ph.D from MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts and an amazing talent who has performed on the Apollo Stage as well as Carnegie Hall. - Vents Magazine
Dr. Kelvin Frazier was born and raised in the city of Savannah, GA. In the fall semester of 2006, Dr. Frazier enrolled at Savannah State University (SSU) and started out as a double major in chemistry and music. Dr. Frazier realized early that he could not finish college in 4 years with those two very different majors, therefore he dropped his music major and picked up mathematics as a second major instead to stand out in his graduate school applications. However, Dr. Frazier was still heavily involved in the SSU music department by playing the trombone in the band and singing in the SSU Concert Choir. During Dr. Frazier’s tenure at SSU, he joined Professor Cecil Jones’ Lab where he studied the cancer treatment called Photodynamic Therapy. Dr. Frazier was also the president of the SSU Student Chapter of the American Chemical Society, won numerous conference awards, published one journal article, and was awarded the Prestigious President’s Second Mile Award (The highest honor for a SSU Graduating Senior).
After graduating Magna Cum Laude from SSU with two majors, Dr. Frazier continued his educational journey by enrolling in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) Physical Chemistry Ph. D. Program in the fall semester of 2010. This department has been ranked the number 1 chemistry program and institution in the world by the QS World University Rankings. While there, Dr. Frazier’s joined Professor Timothy Swager’s Lab studying chemical sensors using carbon nanomaterials. During Dr. Frazier’s tenure at MIT, he was a MIT Provost Presidential Fellow, the president of the Academy of Courageous Minority Engineers, the president of the Black Graduate Student Association, became a co-founding member/board chair of the non-profit company called i-Trek (I Turn Research Into Empowerment and Knowledge), lead MIT first branding conference for two years where the keynote speakers were Doug E. Fresh and Ice-T, obtained one patent, published two scientific journal articles, and won the Prestigious MIT Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Award. After obtaining his Ph. D., Dr. Frazier continued to work in the Swager group as a Post-Doctoral Fellow then moved towards the business side of science by being a Technology Consultant at Accenture where he was aligned to Health and Public Service.
After almost 2 years of consulting for multi-million dollar projects, Dr. Frazier moved to Los Angeles to return to the lab and start pursuing his musical career. Dr. Frazier has proven himself worthy on both sides of his very different career paths. His single entitled “Marked and Scarred” peaked at the 25th position on the Billboard Adult R&B Songs Chart, received FM Broadcast and Satellite Radio airplay across 29 stations nationally (including local stations like Magic 103.9 FM & Love 101.1 FM) and opened up for the Grammy Award Winning Recording Artist Mýa (T.K.O Tour) and Grammy Nominee MAJOR. (Better With You In It Tour) in Los Angeles. While he pursues his passion as a Recording Artist, he also works as a R&D Electrochemist at Georg Fischer Signet LLC, teaches Organic Chemistry at California State University Dominguez Hills as an Adjunct Professor, and sits on the board of directors for the Black Alumni of MIT (BAMIT). - Savannah Herald Newspaper

Dr. Frazier has proven himself worthy on both sides of his very different career paths. His first single entitled “Marked and Scarred” peaked at the 25th position on the Billboard Best Adult R&B Songs Chart, received FM Broadcast and Satellite Radio airplay across 29 stations nationally and opened up for the Grammy Award Winning Recording Artist Mýa (T.K.O Tour) and Grammy Nominee MAJOR. Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The main struggle is finding the right team. There are so many elements to consider from making the music (Songwriter, Producer, Sound Engineer), to my image (Stylist, Web Design, Photographer, Choreographer, Music Video Director), to distribution and marketing (Radio Promoter, Music Video Promoter, Booking Agent, Manager). It is a struggle to balance all of these aspects while having a full-time job as a chemist. Once I find the right team, there will be slightly less pressure on my shoulders.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Kelvin Music LLC – what should we know?
Kelvin Music LLC was started to promote Dr. Kelvin Frazier as an R&B/Pop Artist. The Los Angeles based singer and songwriter, who goes by the name, Kelvin Frazier, Ph.D., is not your typical artist in the music business. After all, he does have the title “Ph.D.” after his name. “Kelvin Frazier, Ph.D.” is not just his stage name; it’s his real name with a real title.
That’s because Kelvin is also a Chemist who graduated from M.I.T. (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) with a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry. Kelvin Music LLC focuses on the production of music. In the future, there are plans for the company to expand to have other artist included on the label. I am most proud that my music has been recognized by the Billboards as part of the Best Adult R&B Songs Chart.
