Bio
My name is Kate Smith, and I'm a songwriter from the Twin Cities. I have been writing songs for 13 years now. I started out writing and performing pop/rock songs with my sister Jen Mishkee, as well as writing and placing instrumental tracks in music libraries. From there I started to write contemporary country songs.
In summer 2010 I got my first independent cuts with two songs I wrote with my sister, "Go Away" and "Starting Tonight," which were released on Tahne's debut pop/rock EP. Recently I have been working on getting my songs heard in Nashville, and so far have gotten a really positive response. I have been fortunate enough to attend the Jeffrey Steele Bootcamp, NSAI's Advanced Song Camp and SongTownUSA's Master Class where I was able to learn from Clay Mills and Marty Dodson. I have had several songs pitched to artists and labels in Nashville and hope to continue to do so.
I currently write actively in contemporary country and pop and am always working on my skills and looking for artists to write with. Classic and modern pop songwriters are my biggest inspiration, from Brian Wilson to Max Martin. I am passionate about melodies that move the listener and will always try to write songs that have that effect.
