"Karrnnel Sawitsky launches new CD"

Fiddle players and music lovers of every variety came out to take in an evening of fiddle music, as Karrnnel Sawitsky hosted the launch of his self titled debut CD – “KARRNNEL”.

Playing to a packed house at the Odeon Events Center, attendees were not disappointed, as he played the cuts off his new c.d. and threw in a mix of everything else possible. From resounding Ukranian favorites with his family, to the toe tapping jigs of the East coast with one of the many special guest performers Troy McGillvary; cheers, applause and standing ovations about sums up the general atmosphere.

Karrnnel is definitely poised on a long term career and the success of this launch validates that. No stranger to the “fiddle world”, (he was one of the Saskatchewan finalists at the Canadian Grand Masters in 2008) he and his siblings have for many years been involved in the Old Time Music scene. It is positive progress to see him take the next step by composing and recording his own tunes, which help to renew the interest in fiddle within his generation and to see him continue to include a lively mix of the standards and old time favorites that please many other generations as well.

Karrnnel knows how to satisfy a crowd.

"Quote"

“Karrnnel’s music takes the important role of “today” and blends it perfectly with the many genres of fiddle music that this young man has been exposed to in his 20 some year’s of fiddling. There’s an impressive career taking shape here.”
- John Arcand - Master of the Metis Fiddle

Bio

2012 Independent Music Award Nominee, 2011 Western Canadian Music Award Nominee, 2010 Canadian Folk Music Award Double Nominee and 2009 Canadian Folk Music Award Nominee for Instrumental Solo Artist of the Year, Karrnnel has established himself as one of the most dynamic and original fiddle players in the Country. As a spirited performer and composer, his music draws from the various styles that he plays - Canadian Old Time to Mtis, Ukrainian to Scottish, Bluegrass to Jazz, and everything between.

In 2012, Karrnnel and three musical friends formed a new band called The Fretless - a young and innovative band that melds the worlds of celtic, folk and chamber music into an amazing and unique sound all their own. Their debut album 'Waterbound' was released in early 2012 with critical acclaim across Canada, the US, and Europe. Karrnnel will be touring across Canada, the US, and Europe all throughout 2012, including a 5 week tour of Europe in the fall.

In 2010, Karrnnel alongside Juno nominated multi instrumentalist Daniel Koulack (Winnipeg, MB) released a new album entitled Fiddle and Banjo which garnered 1 Western Canadian Folk Music Award nomination and 2 Canadian Folk Music Award Nominations for Instrumental Group of the Year and Pushing the Boundaries. Karrnnel released his debut self-titled solo recording in February 2009 with rave reviews from across Canada. The album features 100% original music that showcases the diversity of the music he plays and writes.

In 2009 Karrnnel was one of 3 short listed nominees for the 30 Below Award at the Saskatchewan Lieutenant Governor Arts Awards. This award recognizes young artists who have earned significant recognition in their artistic career and show exceptional promise.

Consistently amazing audiences with his passion and expertise of the music he plays, he is increasingly in demand for solo appearances, recording sessions, and concerts. This has given him the opportunity to perform his talent for such prestigious events as the 2012 International Folk Alliance in Memphis, TN, the 2011 Prairie Scene Festival in Ottawa, ON, the 2011 Ness Creek Music Festival, the 2010 LOVE Saskatchewan Festival at the Toronto Harbourfront, the 2010 Regina Folk Festival, the 2009 Council of the Federation (Premieres Convention), the 2008 World Presidents Organization Winter Gala, and the 2004 Canadian Brier Mens Curling Championship, just to name a few.

Whether he is performing with a full band at a major festival or an intimate house concert, you wont find an unresponsive toe in the audience!
