“Behind commanding lead vocals and an eclectic, but still radio-friendly sound, late-90's-esque alternative rock band KALiCO is quickly becoming one of the more popular bands in the mid-Willamette Valley. The band won Eugene’s 101.5 KFLY and Whiskey River Ranch Underground Showdown last year to open for REHAB in Eugene, and has been packing out bars and clubs in both Salem and Eugene. KALiCO is an Oregon-grown four-piece that describes its sound as indie rock with classic rock roots. Lead man, John Pulvers, is the quintessential definition of the common man w/uncommon dreams to match an uncommon and unassuming talent.
Winners of the 2011 101.5 KFLY Underground Showdown with judging by101.5 KFLY dj's MARCUS BRIDGES and CARL SUNDBERG. KALiCO has shared the bill with nationally acclaimed artists such as, REHAB, THE NEARLY DEADS, and TY CURTIS. Statesman Journal and the Mid-Willamette Valley press voted KALiCO best local band of 2012 and 2013.
KALiCOs songs are never (even for one beat) stagnant. They are ever in motion, continually transporting the listener out of the here and now into that alternate universe that they've constructed. The ride is anything but boring and, even if the listener doesnt know exactly where its all heading, one always knows exactly where they are.
The sound of KALiCO saturates the synapses of their audience in every way great songs should: melodically, harmoniously, lyrically, and rhythmically. The added subtleties and personal nods bring the listener past the stage into the living room and, for some reason, the listener not only likes the music. They become apart of it!
KALiCO just released their 11-track debut album June of 2013. They are a growing talent in the Pacific Northwest USA and we expect great things from this group of humble beginnings.
