Bio
Kadet, an alternative pop band from New Zealand was formed in July 2009 by lead vocalist and songwriter Oscar Hemingway and drummer Thomas Parker. The band originally consisted of bassist Caleb Smiler and lead guitarist Ryan Hobbs, however after two years demoing and giging around their hometown Smiler and Hobbs left the group. In May 2012 Cameron Thorp joined Kadet as bassist to complete the current line up.
In August 2011 Kadet released their debut EP 'Bows & Arrows'. Only 100 handmade physical copies were made. Following the digital release of the EP they supported Kiwi hitmakers 'The Exponents' at their 30th anniversary show, played the Deluxe stage at New Zealands Parachute festival and recieved some generous play from local radio. 'Bows And Arrows' was met with favourable reviews but was not widely pushed outside local gigs due to the departure of Smiler and Hobbs three months after it's release.
This year has seen Kadet demo many new and exciting songs and sounds for their second EP, set to be released summer 2012/13.
Kadets musical style has been called Blue Romantic. The band have cited influences ranging from bands such as Coldplay, The Police, The Killers and Blur. Lead singer Oscar Hemingway described the Bows & Arrows EP as a Gypsy Kings/Counting Crows love child.
