Bio
Before Julie Marie could talk she was singing herself to sleep at night...and she's been singing ever since...
Julie Marie grew up in an unfinished house at the foot of the Cascade Mountains in Washington State, complete with only cold running water and an outhouse. They didn't have much, but the one thing they did have was a record player and her parents listened to Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthrie and John Prine and even Led Zepplin once in awhile. As she grew older those early influences stayed with her and flavored her musical interests and style.
Julie recently completed her new EP “Upside Down”. This CD is all about the lyrics, from the political commentary of “The Old Man Says” to the sweet hopeful innocence of “Upside Down” to the timeless “Hidden Track”, Julie offers something for listeners of all kinds. ""Bring You Home" is the closest thing I have to a love song, I keep trying, but love, in songs, eludes me." The songs on “Upside Down” were written and recorded during her years in Mendocino, a creatively stimulating episode in her life. “Being compared to Leonard Cohen and John Lennon is a bit intimidating” Julie says, “I just want to tell the story within the song so that others can relate to it, can feel it.” In the studio, Julie purposefully kept the arrangements sparse, intimate, so that the listener feels like they are hanging out in her living room with her.
Julie Marie toured over the summer with fellow songstress Valerie Markell. Currently Julie is writing new material and getting into the studio to record whenever possible. Her new recordings are complete with slide guitar, upright bass and lap steel and she can't wait to get them done and share them with you.
