OTTAWA CITIZEN
"Judy Marshak has been one of our
best musical theatre performers
for a long time, but she usually gets
to play the funny card. This selection
of songs is a wonderful surprise
on many fronts. Not only is it
slyly sexy and often touching, but it
also introduces us to Marshak the
songwriter, working in collaboration
with the talented John Alcorn.
The whole enterprise is tasty as
well as tasteful, exuding the very
best of the old-fashioned cabaret
sensibility."
RICHARD OUZOUNIAN - Toronto Star
"..at long last, veteran showstopper Judy Marshak has finally released her first album, A Matter Of Time, and as expected, it’s a musical bonbon to savour. Marshak brings a unique interpretation to tunes by Harold Arlen, Joni Mitchell and Randy Newman, but the real revelation is the calibre of her lyrical collaborations with John Alcorn, including the title track (not to be confused with the John Kander-Fred Ebb song created for the 1976 Minnelli film of the same name.) Add such top-of-the-heap musicians as Rob Piltch, Marc Rogers, Denis Keldie, Guido Basso and Davide Direnzo, and your ears will thank you for listening"
GEORGE ANTHONY - CBC
"If you love jazz, blues, or just wonderfully cool vocals and arrangements, you will love this compilation...I was enchanted...It's fabulous."
NEIL CRONE (Little Mosque on the Prairie) - newsdurhamregion.com
"Before the first song, Broken Radio, had faded into a cover of Stephen Bishop’s On and On, I found myself getting that telling little rush that suggests I’ll be listening to this record a lot.....It’s a warm, intimate, dare I say cozy record that disarms, charms and delights you. There are moments of sweetness and longing. There are moments of lightness. There are moments of sensuality. There are just so many good things happening here.......The material is great and the arrangements are wonderful and lush but not overpowering. The key selling point, though, remains Marshak’s voice.....Find a fireplace, find a nice bottle of wine and find this record."
DOUG GALLANT - THE GUARDIAN, PEI
On New Year's Day, the thirteen hosts from JAZZ.FM91 presented their picks of the best and brightest of 2009, each naming their favourite recording of the year. Among the 13 selections, Heather Bambrick's choice was Judy Marshak's recent release, "A Matter of Time".

"Judy, some of us are in jeopardy - dancing while driving, crying behind the wheels of our vehicles, burning dinner while dancing, and singing without a license in public places. ...It is stellar...."
CHERYL HAWKES - journalist, 'More' Magazine
"The recording is fabulous! It's locked into the drive of my car....gets better with every listen..."
SANDY CRAWLEY - Exec. Director of Documentary Org. of Canada, actor/musician
"Judy Marshak is an absolute marvel. She has long been revered as a theatrical treasure, but now she has produced (with the remarkable guidance of John Alcorn) a CD which adds an entire new dimension to her talent. The ease and originality with which she moves through a myriad of styles is nothing short of astonishing, and the fact that all but four of the songs are original material from her own pen (in collaboration with John) is an added delight. This CD is a gift to all of us from a beautiful, magnetic songstress who reaches for the stars and grabs them with exquisite mastery. She has surrounded herself with marvellous musicians, and the combination is mermerizing. I am in awe."
DAVID WARRACK - composer/director/producer
"Listening to "A Matter of Time" is time well spent. Makes ya dance. Makes ya sing. Makes ya happy!"
BARBARA BUDD - CBC Radio Host of "As It Happens"
""I have known Judy Marshak for a number of years as a peerless musical theatre performer as well as a joyous interpreter of vintage jazz. I am delighted to see that she has blossomed into a masterful singer-songwriter, by turns witty, pensive and heartrending. Her new CD, which demonstrates all of her bountiful gifts, is simply wonderful.""

Bio
Over the years, Judy Marshak has gained respect and admiration in many facets of the entertainment industry - theatre, television, film, voiceover, and music. Long known as a "singer's singer", Judy's voice has graced jazz clubs and concert halls across the country. She's sung for legendary Hollywood composer Harry Warren, worked with Grammy award winning team Richard Maltby and David Shire, shared billing with Ian Tyson at the Imperial Room.
However, the release of her first solo CD "A Matter of Time" is perhaps the most gratifying project to date. When turning points in her personal life stimulated a growing passion to write songs, the desire to record these songs lead her to esteemed jazz artist John Alcorn to be producer/collaborator/arranger on this journey. Their partnership, coupled with some of Toronto's finest musicians, has resulted in what Judy feels is a highpoint of her career - an album of soulful, sometimes whimsical, sexy, grooving, feel-good music, with lyrics that reflect love and loss and coming of age. CBC's George Anthony calls it a "musical bonbon to savour". Rob Fogle (CHRY-FM) says "Marshak's voice is right on the money". The Toronto Star's Richard Ouzounian calls it "slyly sexy and often touching...a wonderful surprise on many fronts".
("A Matter of Time" is a cross-over album, Adult Contemporary/Jazz, in the feel of Norah Jones, Rickie Lee Jones...)
Past musical highlights have included her highly acclaimed cabaret shows, (an audience favourite being her Blossom Dearie show), various jazz vocal trios, lead roles in such musicals as "Beauty and the Beast", "The Drowsy Chaperone", "Irma La Douce", "Anne of Green Gables", "Pal Joey", and so many more. She's appeared at Toronto's legendary Old Mill in the T.D. Jazz Festival, and played their Home Smith Lounge as part of the Friday Night Jazz Vocalist Series. Recently, she co-starred with Andrea Martin in a workshop concert of Johnny Mercer's "Dear World", and returned this spring from premiering her new solo ukulele show at the Kariwak Village Resort in Tobago. Since then, Judy and her ukuleles have been drawing audiences in clubs throughout Ontario, featuring an eclectic repertoire ranging from Bobbie Gentry to Bill Withers to Henry Mancini. And her workshops for beginner uke studies, 'UKEOLOGY', are rapidly growing in popularity. The ukulele has stolen her heart!
Songwars Songwriting Contest has awarded the Marshak/Alcorn song "Broken Radio" 1st Place in the Open Category, as well as it's highest honor as Outstanding Songwriter for the latest round! The contest is judged by an all-star cast of musicians and songwriters including Mike Pinder of the Moody Blues and Denny Laine of Wings.
"Broken Radio" has also won 1st Place in the Jazz Category of the West Coast Songwriters International Song Contest.
On Dec.10/09, Richard Ouzounian of the TORONTO STAR placed her CD alongside Michael Feinstein's and 6 others as his prime picks of the season for the 'Broadway' crowd.
Toronto's JAZZ-FM.91 included "A Matter of Time" on their list of the best and brightest new releases of 2009.
Her CD is currently featured on the regular play lists at JazzFM91, CBC Radio, CHRY105.5FM, 88.1FM, CIUT89.5FM, WOSR-Radio, iRadioLA-Indie104, and many other live streaming internet stations.
