Bio
From her delivery into this world Journii was ever-consumed with the ambiance, passion and exemplified the aura of a true performers spirit akin to past greats of our time. Journii would in turn begin to sing immediately as soon as she started to forge words and sounds. By the age of two the Dallas, Texas native could (and would constantly) be found soulfully belting the words of a song introduced to her by her grandmother “Don’t Worry Be Happy.” Journii began playing violin at the age of nine and her official journey on the road to becoming a professional singer would be spurred by a friend’s producer uncle when he encouraged her to write her own songs. “ Writing is the key to longevity in the music industry,” he told her. By the age of 13 with that thought cemented in her mind & engraved in her heart Journii would spend the next several years diligently toiling away at her craft locked in her room fully enveloped with all that is songwriting. Studying great writers such as Diane Warren, Stevie Wonder, Lauryn Hill, James Taylor, John Mayer & The Bee Gees.
After years of training and nurturing her craft. Journii began writing songs for upcoming singers and various rappers in the Dallas Texas Music Scene. Post High School Journii moved to St. Louis and attended Florissant Valley Community College. While there the music major’s life was forever changed as she picked up and fell in love with another instrument, this time around it would be the guitar. “Watching Lauryn Hill on MTV Unplugged changed my life.” “I wanted to make beautiful music just like her.” Journii begin teaching herself guitar and would eventually come to take the St. Louis Music Scene by storm. In 2009 Journii’s assent to notoriety would move her to Los Angeles, California where she would attend the Musicians Institute. It was there that Journii met Songwriter/Producer/engineer Darryl Swann (noted for his work with Macy Grey). Darryl took her under his wing and assisted Journii in furthering the manifestation of her crafts even more.
“Journii reminds me of a modern day James Taylor. She’s a prolific songwriter/producer. Her music is very heartfelt. One listen to Journii’s music and your life will forever be changed. She pours her heart and soul into every note.” – Darry Swann
