If you haven’t yet heard of Josh Clarke, I’m about to put you on because it’s a name that’ll soon be repeated by people everywhere.
Clarke, who is an up and coming artist from Toronto, has worked with the likes of artists such as JYDN and management groups local to Ottawa, such as Saabs Entertainment. Although he comes from the six,
he’s been received with open arms and much enthusiasm here in Ottawa. In fact, one of his first really big gigs was actually during the Grey Cup weekend here in Ottawa, when he hosted an event at Prvt Prprty on the same night as DVSN. Josh, however, is no stranger to fan love, as his, song “One Night” has already been playing on local radio stations, as well as in other countries, giving him the opportunity to work on building a bigger network here in the city. That’s why Josh will be having his own launch party this Saturday, January 20th at 6pm in collaboration with the CHEO Foundation, hosted at one of Ottawa’s newest clubs, the 27th Club with proceeds going towards CHEO.
What’s interesting about Josh isn’t how quickly he’s rising to fame but the ways in which he’s managed to maintain a humble and endearing persona. On tracks such as “Backseat” featuring JYDN, listeners are able to connect with Josh on a personal level as he croons to a female about his feelings towards her. On “Too Personal”, which is available on iTunes and Spotify, he continues with the soft side persona however he faces the track from a more ruthless perspective as he describes his urge to sleep with someone but not fall in love.
With that being said, this launch party, being hosted by his management Saabs Entertainment, will be one for the books. Specials guests such as MC Ohsogood will be hosting the event and DJ MACE will be taking care of the tracks for the night. In addition to this, I’ve been told that there will have a personal story to tell party-goers regarding the CHEO foundation allowing fans to truly understand why Josh decided to collab with them. - Fatima Alvarenga
As you may already know, the annual Grey Cup is taking place Sunday, November 26th in Ottawa so Lansdowne’s about to be all the way lit because the TD Stadium is covering this event. Now, I’ll be honest and let you know I don’t know anything about football, or any sports for that matter; however, I do know a thing or two about partying. With that being said, I definitely find ways to get all the inside scoop about clubbing in the city and upcoming events before the general public does and boy, do I have some tea for y’all!
From what I’ve been told, there are only really 3 main nighttime events that you need to be focused on that weekend because these are about to be the most lit. Now, you probably clicked on this article because you saw dvsn’s name in the title and don’t worry, I’m getting there but let’s talk about some of the other events going on that same weekend because they all tie together.
On Friday, November 24th, we have The Game Part 1. This is a kickoff party for the grey cup so this is basically how you’re going to show other locals just how proud of your team you are. This is the night to get shit faced and experience Ottawa’s newest urban nightclub, Prvt Prprty. Not only is this event going to be lit because they’re going to have great drinks and a great atmosphere but artists such as Josh Clarke, Eddy P, Jewelz from Toronto, and Ottawa local JYDN are performing. If you don’t already know, JYDN just opened for Roy f*cking Woods on November 11th, and he’s from the same collective as Maurice Moore with the Strxytellers. Doors open at 10pm so don’t be late because it’s bound to be packed but if you want to play it safe, you can grab tickets by going to eventbrite.ca and searching “Great Cup The Game Part 1”. Hurry now, don’t wait too long or you might just catch an L.
On Saturday, November 25th, this is definitely the event to go to if you’re a dedicated groupie and looking to meet your new bae. I’m only kidding however there will be some football stars in the building including Darian Durant, Nik Lewis, and Jovon Johnson. Try not to act too hard like a fanboy, y’know, play it cool and just get litty at Steak & Sushi in the Byward Market. Once again, tickets will be sold on Eventbrite however for this event, you’ll be searching for “Grey Cup The Game Part 2”. Easy enough, right? If you’re not too hungover from the night before, this is a great event to pretty much just mix and mingle, have a few drinks, and basically prepare yourself for the big day and the main event. This is definitely going to be a little bit more of a club vibe than the night before so you can get turnt if you want just don’t get so hungover you miss the game!
And now, for the main event and what you’ve been waiting for; the title of this article is correct, dvsn is coming to Ottawa, baby! They’ll be hosting an event at Prvt Prprty which is extremely exciting for Ottawa! Now, if you’re as in love with this duo as I am, then you know that they recently released their album “Morning After” and boy, was this album extremely well received. Featuring hit tracks such as “Nuh Time/ Tek Time”, “Think About Me”, and “Morning After”, if someone didn’t know this RnB group prior, once the album was released, they definitely did. It was literally anything anyone was talking about and unsurprisingly, soon after, they announced that they were going on tour. However, Ottawa was obviously left out… you know, because we always are, sigh. Yet, Saabs Entertainment took it upon themselves to be the hero Ottawa needs by bringing dvsn here anyway! Now, I know for a fact I will definitely be there and I also know that it’s most likely an event that will sell out. So, like I always say, either buy your tickets in advance or arrive early! I don’t want to see anyone catching any L’s – don’t say I didn’t warn you, either! - Fatima Alvarenga
Rising Canadian music star Josh Clarke talks about the release of his new single "One Night - Daytime Ottawa
Toronto, Canada – April 19, 2016 – A gift with words and a knack for sound, Josh Clarke knew music was the path he needed to walk, well – rather, run down. Teamed with a talented band, this Canadian pop singer is looking to take the genre and breathe new life into it with his debut single, “Payback.” It just dropped at the beginning of April and has already proven to be just what listeners ordered.
While this is the first single for the young artist, his music can be described as contemporary pop with an eclectic sound. Writing all his own music, he’s a rarity in this realm. He is a creator by nature who dives into the depths that drive and elevate his sound and style to the next level. Being self-taught, on everything from the piano to the drums, Clarke knows his way around how to construct a song and it shows heavily in “Payback.”
So far Clarke has entertained in his native Ontario at the Markham Convention Centre’s New Year’s Celebration as well as the Culinary Arts Banquet Hall this year. Clarke plans on continuing with his live shows in the future as his online presence continues to grow. Having been dubbed a “young Lenny Kravitz,” Clarke is a showman on and off the stage who shines.
Those interested in hearing more from Josh Clarke can check him and “Payback” out online.

Toronto R&B artist Josh Clarke recently released a music video for his latest single “One Night”. Directed by Camilleon Productions and produced by Technikolormedia and Weggon Allen, the video stars Josh Clarke and Suzette Haywood.
The video for One Night is based around a sexy sophisticated “boss lady” who prides herself on being self-sufficient. She’s an entrepreneur and exudes a certain energy and presence about herself when she walks into a room. She is not easily impressed by men, especially those who seek her attention by showing off or flaunting lavish gifts as she can attain all of the above by on her own.
With this being said, our boss lady has coincidentally run into a certain young man a few times but has never given him the time of day based on how busy she is . One night while enjoying a girls night out at a posh supper club in NYC, she spots this young man out of the corner of her eye.
He is surrounded by beautiful women but he also sees her, and directs all his attention towards her. To him, beauty isn’t solely about the sexy women surrounding him but about the energy this boss lady has that just demands attention and curiosity. For that reason, he is drawn to her. Not only is she well put together and a boss but she is older and sophisticated which makes him want her more . “One Night” is about two people who crossed paths several times but the minute they actually connected they shared common understanding and the connection was undeniable. “One Night” is also about ladies who don’t want a one night stand; they’re their own independent bosses and command respect through action and sophistication. Being sexy is an energy and sometimes can be undeniable when you run into the right man…“one night”. - Shifter Magazine

Morning Jam With Josh Clarke - CTV
Upon first connecting with him on the phone, I could tell Josh Clarke was a genuine guy. He thanked me for the opportunity to talk as though as I wasn't the one asking for his time. After a quick introduction on my part, we began our interview, which in all honesty, felt more like a conversation about Josh and his artistry as opposed to a formal Q&A.
Josh Clarke is a 20-something year old kid from Toronto with a big voice and an even bigger future ahead of him. He recently dropped his EP 24 Hours that features 8 songs, 3 interludes, and just one guest appearance, JYDN. "The vibe gets more into my R&B side because naturally I'm an R&B artist though I'm trying to get more commercial to reach more people and target a different market". On the EP, listeners get to hear his R&B side, which he's most familiar with, as well as some afropop and a sort of R&B trap which he states he, "wouldn't call R&B trap but R&B with a little bit more energy to it". On tracks such as "Ready'", a song he says "people are bumping right now and that the NHL awards used for their playoff anthem", this R&B trap medley that he describes can be heard.
Josh chose August 3rd to release the EP because it took him a full year to complete the project and get everything in order. The date also lined up with the day on which he was given the opportunity to open a show in Toronto as a main act for Runtown, a very well known international artist. Given the timing of the show, Josh decided August 3rd was the perfect time considering the EP was already done and the show was a really big look.
"Since the EP dropped, my followers have been telling me that it looks like I'm serious about what I'm doing. I know I'm serious about my craft, I know people will see that I'm serious, and when I hear it from third parties, it's just proving what I think to myself; it's proving me right".
According to Josh, people are seeing the true musician in him; they're seeing that he holds the ability to sing without auto tune, a feat not many can claim nowadays. Furthermore, listeners get a variety of music as he takes sounds from different parts of the world using that to mold him as an artist. To that point, when asked what makes him unique, he answered, "my sound. I know that it's cliche to say that, but with me, I have so many different styles on the album". His voice stays the same but we can see that he's learning the music and he incorporates a little bit of everything showcasing his ability to switch up his styles.
When it comes to the city he was raised in, Josh says he loves Toronto.
"It's my hometown, I was born there, raised there and I've seen a lot of people come out of there. The culture in Toronto is still growing and we're just now getting our start but it's just the beginning of everything that's to come. The musicians and artists there are phenomenal".
Josh says it's funny seeing the culture now in comparison to where it was a few years back as the people who used to school him on the game such as Carti and Socrates, were the brand ambassadors, the pioneers of Toronto culture. He's seen what they've done to get Toronto to where it is concerning this new movement with artists such as the Weeknd and Tory Lanez. Josh claims so many people from different regions in Toronto are coming up from the underground and he's just happy to be a part of that.
In regards to what's in store for him, Josh claims "more shows". He says that right now, it's just getting the word out that he's coming from Toronto and Canada. Josh knows that the music he puts out is serious and represents who he is so he wants people to look out for future shows or things that might be going on in different cities. Now that the EP is done, his primary goal right now is just getting his name out there and taking over.
