Tran said it was tough juggling his burgeoning acting and magic careers with a full-time college schedule. Married to his laptop computer, he brainstormed ideas for his magic act between classes, stayed up until the wee hours of the morning to complete his homework, and slept while he could, sometimes on flights between jobs.
Robert Dorian, chairman of the Magic Castle Junior Society, has known Tran for years. Dorian still remembers the magical illusions Tran staged for the Van Nuys Performing Arts production of "Dracula," including a mid-stage disappearance of the Count.
"Because of his age -- and he looks younger than he is -- there's almost a Doung Henning-like sense of amazement and wonder at what he does," Dorian Said.
Lillian Lehman, a professional actress and theater professor at California State University, Northridge, said Tran stood out among her students for his hard work, discipline, and professionalism.
"I see someone who has so much joy up there performing," Lehman said. "He has a freeness. He implements all of his magical actions in whatever he's doing for the the illusion, and he has you so smitten with who he is and what's he's doing, you never see (how it's done)." - The Daily News

Inside of the Hollywood Magic Castle's Palace of Mystery, young conjurer Joseph Tran performs with the grace of magicians twice his age. Tran, who is one of the youngest magicians to be regularly headlining at the famed mansion, has won some of the institution's top awards for both presentation and technical ability. He began performing as a Junior Member in the Castle's Close-up Gallery at age 16, and eventually moved to closing the main stage show. Performing with a casual elan, Tran is considered to be one of the finest young magicians in the country by some of the top tricksters in Los Angeles. - Los Angeles Times

The highlight of the show is magician Joseph Tran. The moment he hits the stage, Tran's background in the Theatre Arts is evident. He is deliciously charming, offering the audience a cavalcade of spontaneity and more than just a standard bag-of-tricks. The crowd aptly responds to every routine, roaring in laughter and hanging on Tran’s every last word. At the end, Tran receives a standing ovation, proving that for every trick in the book, presentation is everything. - Backstage West

Bio
Joseph Tran’s highly energetic, physical blend of comedy and magic make him one of the hottest young headliners touring today. With an understanding of pop culture, theatrics, and the modern audience, Joseph is a popular favorite amongst corporations, universities, cruise ships, and theatres across the world.
Born to Ballroom-dance-teaching, Vietnamese-immigrant parents, Joseph’s upbringing remained entirely normal – that is, for a Vietnamese kid with Ballroom dance teaching, immigrant parents. As a kid, Joseph sought to be the best ten-year-old magician in his neighborhood (technically, the only ten-year-old magician in his neighborhood).
Joseph later became a graduate of Theatre and Multimedia Production with a minor in Psychology, which, beyond magic, provided him the intimate knowledge of showmanship, improvisation, and the psychology of entertainment. All the while, Joseph toured the United States, honing his craft to pay for his college tuition.
Following his degree, Joseph continued to develop and evolve his magic while working as an actor and production specialist for several high-profile movie studios. Frustrated with the direction magic was taking, Joseph sought to combine the classy, old-school underground sleight-of-hand magic with contemporary pop-culture to bring the ‘cool-factor’ back to the art.
Drawing from his unique upbringing and training, Joseph currently travels all across the world, dazzling audiences with a show that includes comedy only a western-born person with an eastern cultural background could tell, along with unique, never-before-seen, modern day miracles.
