"John Daly Interview with AJ & DBS Corp. 11/2011"

» John Daly Interview @Aj&dbs
Posted on November 21, 2011 at 1:30 AM

John Daly, Largo, FL.

How did the project come into existence? = I've been writing and recording for Years. It was around 1998 that I got serious about only doing original material and submitting it to the industry for career goals.

Who are the members of the band if any and please tell us about it? = I've done mostly studio work as a band. On lead guitar I have the engineer of my studio recordings (who has played live a few times with me). His name is Steve Connelly. He has toured with Roger Mcguinn (of The Birds) and other big named bands. Drums: Bryan Thompson (Recent) and all kinds of other musicians through the Years.

How would you describe your sound/genre? = I like many genre's, but have always stayed in the classic Rock avenue as my main venture.

What formal training or previous experience do any of the members have? = Well, like I said about Steve Connelly (lead guitarist). He has toured through the Years with Roger McGuinn, The Headlights, Sent Down, and other bands that have had some national exposure.

Are you working w/ a producer on your upcoming album? = Right now I'm only doing demos that I produce myself. Along with videos to go along with them.

Who would you say has been the biggest influence on the bands sound or that you have used as inspiration for your music? = Oh. by far I'd have to say Led Zeppelin. They, along with other versatile bands have had endless influence on the things I write. I don't like to be pigeon holed into one style or sound. I don't see alot of versatile bands these days. The Industry seems to want the same sound over and over. They don't want to take a chance on anything that isn't already making money in the current market. I'd say I don't blame them, but it's being proved that the biggest names in music were introduced by people who took a chance and went against the grain.

What advice would you give to others starting out? = Do what you like! Don't let other people tell you what you should or shouldn't do (as far as style or direction). If you get the necessary ingredients, like song structure etc., you don't have any boundaries. And don't let the critics affect your inspiration. I've noticed that a lot of these big time producers that critique your music don't have any thing to back them up as far as their own craft.

Where can people go to learn more about you and hear your music? = www.JohnDalyProject.com is my official website. You can also put JohnDalyProject after most website urls and you'll get me.

If you could play anywhere in the world or with anyone you wanted where and who would it be with? = Well, like I said about influence. I'd love to jam out with Jimmy Page and counless other classic rock bands that have inspired me.

What has been your greatest experience so far either individually or as a whole? = Right off the bat I can think of getting my material in a Warner Bros TV library, a distribution deal with Cinderella Records and getting a song in the video game Rock Band. All that is pretty exciting to me.

Do you have any upcoming events or news you would like to tell our readers about? = Well, I just got the song I was telling you about (Don't Drink the Bottle) in the Rock Band video game. It should be out in mid Nov. It's based on my father (who passed away at 59 from alcohol abuse. But it still seems to work as a heavy blues rock theme for the game.

Where do you see yourselves or hope to be in about 5 years? = Having my music in TV shows, Movie soundtracks, commercials and everywhere possible with touring going on at the same time. I love to create and hope I am totally emerged in the entertainment business

"John Daly Project Brings Blues Rock Track “Don’t Drink the Bottle” to Rock Band!"

Music is written from the heart and draws inspiration from personal feelings and life experiences. If an event has impacted a musician, they express it through the art they create. John Daly has done this very thing and created the bluesy “Don’t Drink the Bottle,” which we’re proud to bring to the Rock Band Network!

John has been performing since he was young. Born in Levitttown, Pennsylvania, John played locally until he moved to Florida and began recording CDs with a studio band. A man of many talents, John has written many kinds of songs, from Big Band to Country, and is looking to have his music heard in as many places as possible. It’s only natural then that the Rock Band Network would be the next avenue for his music to show up in.

“Don’t Drink the Bottle” is a song about John’s father, who succumbed to alcoholism when John was still young. It’s a perfect portrayal of alcoholism and how it affects not only the alcoholic but the people around him as well. This story is wrapped up in a blues-rock package with catchy guitar riffs and powerful vocals that showcase John’s musical talent. - CHART TOPPERS AUTHORING, LLC 11/2011

"Dress up for the strippers (John Daly's New Video) Interview 11/2011"

This man needs a meme.
Antoine “Hide Yo Kids” Dodson was just a concerned citizen until AutoTune brought the LOLs.
And Epic Beard Man was nothing more than an angry war vet until the mysterious Amber Lamps ignored him.
Earnest musician John Daly has brought the hair, the strippers and the chroma key – what can you add?

Song: Her Name’s Dazie
Artist: John Daly
Director: John Daly
From: US

How do you style yourself for a music video?
All depends what the subject matter is. I dressed up for Dazie because of the higher class strip clubs depicted in the video. Usually, the bouncers and the doormen are dressed formally.

What is it about strip clubs that are so compelling?
Well, first of all it’s very exciting for the male species to see half/full naked women dancing around, but I wanted to capture the women’s side of it also, which is needing money and what needs to be done to get it.

How long have you been growing your hair for?
I’ve had long hair since the late 90's.

Do you work with a team of people to make the clips?
So far, no. It’s all me.

How do you collect the video and stills for your music videos?
I shoot most of the video myself. I have other people help out by letting me use their footage sometimes. I take most of the photos from my own collection and also by available Google search photos that depict what I’ve trying to convey in the story.

What’s been the reaction to your music videos?
I’m getting more and more good responses. It takes a lot of promoting to get them in front of decent size audiences.

What are your favorite clips from other artists?
I’ve always loved live classic rock footage. One I can think of right off the bat is Led Zeppelin’s performance of Kashmir at Earls Court in London 1975.

What are your musical goals?
I want to take this thing as far as God will let me. I love this business and want to do nothing else. - Music Vid. Kid

"08/17/2010 Music Feedback report for: The Unemployment Song"

Performance:
Energy- We thought your track had rousing energy. You sound confident in your musical skills and the parts you're playing.

Instruments and Rhythm: We think your Rhythmic elements on this release can hang with the best of them. Tight clean and interesting playing.

Songwriting:
Hook: Ah, the elusive hook. A great hook can redeem a troubled song or get a payday for a topnotch band. Your hooks grabbed us. Excellent work!

Lyrics:
Crafting interesting lyrics is hard and a completely different art then writing the music.
Clearly you've put some thought into your lyrics. Great work!

Song structure:
We thought this song had a logical structure and all the parts were distinct. A good song structure generally has the repetition and surprise. And we thought you nailed it.

The John Daly Project
Johnny's Quest
If Daly's debut solo album sounds a tad famaliar to you, then you've been bar-hopping around these parts way too long. Over the years, Daly has lent his towering vocals to just about every high-profile hard rock act (including Damn the Torpedoes, Big Brother, Kingpin, Rocky Ruckman et frickin' cetera) in every beach hole-in-wall with a keg tap. His own project is just the sort of retro-edged hard finesse(Boston,Journey, name it claim it) that keeps popping up on the AOR stations around town. So while there's not much new ground broken, there's none intended. For you teetotalers who may have missed, Daly has some of Sammy Hagar's edge, with a lot of Steve Perry's emotion, though he can pull off the more laidback wares of Boz Scaggs at certain moments. This set contains a nice array of tunes( power ballads, epic rockers, ect.) with some chops-heavy playing. Features ZenDen impresario Steve Connelly on stun guitar(way to rawk out, brother man!), guitarist Stephen Haendiges, bassist Willie Moore, drummer John Hartley, and late Riff Raff band bassist Sterling Lee Janacek on his final recording.

JOHNNY'S QUEST II - The John Daly Project
Recorded at ZEN Studios
Straight out of the gate JOHNNY'S QUEST II comes at you full speed ahead. If you're looking for blazing in your face metal it's not. Actually it's a fresh break from all the growling and screaming you hear these days. Most of the songs seem to have sort of a POPPY PSYCHEDELIC oriented guitar rock that keeps you coming back for a second and third listen. JOHNNY'S QUEST gets GGGG's for not following the mainstream and doing it his way as Daly plays most of the instruments and does all the vocals.

"St. Petersburg Times"

JOHNNYS QUEST II , THE JOHN DALY PROJECT
( WWW.JOHNNYSQUEST.COM ) : Largo songwriter
Johnny Daly performs under the moniker Johnny's Quest.the John Daly project,
his second album, is an intensely personal disc exploring different sorts of music
including rock, country pop, even electronica dance pop. Bummer anthem Depressed From Stress is brightened up with mandolin, though Daly does let
trouble get the best of him as he screams the chorus at the song's end. Snazzy
finger snaps and acoustic guitar help Daly celebrate the big guy in the sky on
Greater Power. Daly adopts an androidy drone on the dance cut, Our Fantasies,
intoning, "I'm gonna make you dance with me / You're gonna make romance with me." like a randy robot. He even takes a detour into goofy rap on Ghetto Stuck.
Daly's Project is fun, filled with a sense of play and candidness.

"Industry Critique"

Emotional Commentary: I truly enjoyed this song. It tells a intriguing story while maintaining a little bit of humor in it as well. The emotions the character in the song is feeling is perfectly demonstrated by the title "Meagan Won't Ya Make Me A Drink" very nice job in capturing the image.
Technical Commentary: Everything about this song worked entirely well together. The music choice, the melodies, and the structure was great. The sound was clear, the mix was fitting, making this songs overall production perfect.

"www.apequake.com review 2007"

John Daly is a sturdy rocker that loves the gritty brand of riffage that plays well in bars and dive clubs. Most musicians would be happy playing covers and throwing his or her song once in a while, but John strives to be a little more than a local pub crawler.
John is open to a massive variety of genres. Outside of hard rock, classic swing, country and alt-rock clip have featured spaces in The John Daly Project. The songs are catchy, accessible and immediate.

"Industry Critique for the song:(Starting Over)Dec. 2008"

"This is a fun kind of song with an anthemic "time for a comeback" vibe. The lyrics aren’t the most complex but work. The music has a heavy, gritty groove that has a good sound. The title carries a staunch message. "

"The musical performance has a steady, consistent quality and just grinds along as a solid rocker. The arrangement is clean and sharp with no frills. " - Song of the Year

"Taxi Critique"

TAXI (Leading Independent A&R) Critiques: My Throne: " Strong opening. The vocals are sung with energy and power. The guitars
are detailed and are executed with experience. The composition is dynamically well paced".-

And on the song: Six Strings: "A fun tune. The vocals remind me of early Rod Stewart. The energy is up front and felt throughout- and is designed with focus on melody." Listener ID #223 - Taxi, The leading independent A&R

"Song of the Year Feedback"

For the Song: Oh Karen "The vocals are melodic with charming color. The musical interpretation is clear, powerful with precise and memorable performances. The rhythm is resolute and adds impressive dynamics to the composition. The overall ideas are presented in a professional manner
and superbly done"
"The natural feel and stirring lyrical sentiment give this exceptional market potential".

"Song of the Year Feedback"

For the song: Fire on the fiddle " Lavish in production, arranged and executed with strong musicianship "Fire on the fiddle" is a progressive journey into orchestrated and textured classic country sounds with a touch of rock-n roll class. Lyrically, this has great depth in content"

An emotionally driven track with memorable performances. Great job!"

Bio

JOHN DALY (SINGER/SONGWRITER)

John has been writing and performing since he was a child. Though not continuous, he has made it a point since 1998 to dedicate his career goals to music alone. John grew up in Levittown Pennsylvania and played in the local club circuit for several years after graduating high school. After moving to Largo Florida he sought out musicians for a new band. After many band line ups and frustrating attempts to collaborate, he decided to hire musicians for studio work. In 1998 he completed his first CD. 3 CDs later and with many more songs lined up, John is proceeding to get his music heard everywhere possible. Though Rock & Roll is his favorite genre, he doesn't want to stop there. John has written Big Band Swing arrangements, Country, and much more. "Classification of an artist seems so limiting to a person that enjoys variety". So he continues to perfect his craft and spread his creation in many directions (Including material in a Warner Bros. TV Library & Rock Band Video Game). Another creative area being recognized is his videos. John has several low budget videos he has been producing for his material. They're being used on internet radio shows and podcasts throughout the world. Though performing is his favorite and most exciting area of the music business, it's safe to say enthusiasm exists in all areas of John's creative endeavors. John can create on the spot. If an idea or need for a musical part is required, he probably can have pretty good input for it in a short period of time. With hundreds of songs and song parts recorded on tape, he has a wide variety to choose from. John does play out at Open mics, Open jams and guest sings for most of the local bands in the Tampa Bay area when possible. John is also starting to do showcases again and looks forward to performing in as many places as possible in '2012'.
