"Joey O'Neil came to the Yukon to escape the big city. She's living and working in Dawson City, the site of the Klondike Gold Rush and a booming arts scene. This song reminds me of Steph Cameron's terrific debut record from last year. There's just so much honesty in the lyrics and the performance, it's hard not to get carried along. My only complaint: at two minutes, I wish the tune was longer."

Song: When I Forget
An excellent singer-songwriter with a voice as haunting as a Klondike winter. - CBC Music
"OK, here's a gem that caught my eye on Twitter: Joey O'Neil hails from way, way up in the artist-friendly enclave of Dawson City, Yukon. There, she chops wood, slogs through snow and writes great songs like "Hard Times." O'Neil is like a brunette version of Joni Mitchell, and made an amazing Searchlight video to (snow)boot!"
- Grant Lawrence - CBC Music
I saw the history of the world evolve in front of me while listening to sweet folk songs about skeletons at 4 a.m. That was a first for me.

You can tell music is an industry because it comes with these terms you have to learn. Door Split. Gig. Play. Only the last one is interesting. Yes, artists play their songs at a show. But Joey O'Neil actually plays! Whimsical and strange, fun and engaging - like tripping and falling into a Tim Burton movie - she captures your attention. I'm so fortunate she agreed to be on NewMusic Ten this month, I want others to join us at this tea party, pull up one of those small bright red plastic chairs and take a seat. The show - the play - is about to begin!

Bio
Joey O’Neil escaped the industrial depths of downtown Toronto to the blissful abyss of the Yukon wilderness.
From her cozy, Klondike cabin wafts sad, folk-country Canadiana about a dog and a car by a girl and her guitar. Plucking folksily, this songbird spins personal yet universal yarns of yearning.
Though most of her time is spent in survival mode as she chops wood and hauls water with her canine sidekick, Oblio, O'Neil completed “Far, Far, Far” in 2016, a collection of twelve tracks produced by Nick Ferrio. She is currently working toward her second full-length album, produced by Aaron Goldstein and recorded at Baldwin Street Sound, to be released in April of 2020.
Having opened for the likes of Basia Bulat and Jennifer Castle, she often ventures back and forth between her territorial and provincial homelands playing intimate shows along the way.
