“Joel Guzman is one of the finest musicians I have ever worked with. He is truly inspirational. I never put Joel in (recording) situation where he didn't have a problem that he could not solve. Everybody is always impressed with his work, even those unfamiliar with his work. He definitely looks beyond the standard and norms in what he is working on. and always looking to expand.” --Steve Berlin, noted producer (Los Lobos, Super Seven, Aztex, Michelle Shocked)
"Although Sarah Fox is at the top of her game as one of Texas' leading Latina singers, she easily transcends the cultural genres and barriers. Her passionate songwriting, visceral vocals, and dynamic stage presence make her one of the most exciting contemporary performers anywhere." -- Margaret Moser, staff writer, Austin Chronicle/Austin Music Awards director - GFR Publications
Sarah Fox is an accomplished bi-lingual singer and songwriter who began writing at the age of nine. With a Mexican mother and a Cuban father, Sarah was exposed to the best of several worlds including top artists in Salsa, Blues, as well as Jazz music. In 1999, Sarah joined Los Super Seven (RCA/Nashville) as a guest vocalist. The Mexican Roots CD received a Grammy for best Mexican-American Album. She quickly followed with 'Short Stories' produced by Steve Berlin on Hightone Records. The eclectic music project mixes folk and jazz.
With a vocal style that caused comparisons to Etta James and Sarah Vaughn impossible not to make, Random Lengths Magazine refers to Fox as so extraordinary that she’s incredible. Additionally, Fox is an awesome and gifted vocal talent with bi-lingual singing abilities. On cuts like “Cumbia,” “Isla,”or “Sangre Azteca,” Fox’s vocals sets you at ease like you’re cruising on a sunny afternoon lulling you into a state of obliviousness to traffic jams on the freeways leading to downtown Los Angeles. The music on each of these are on a incredibly high level that you would assume get heavy rotation on stations like KJAZZ. - Biography
Austin, TX September 17, 2016— Through the years accordionist/arranger/producer Joel Guzman and singer/songwriter Sarah Fox have been hailed for their artistry, creative muse and dedication to high energy performances. - Steve Berlin / Los Lobos
By Christa T. for Accordion Americana Grammy Award winning Accordionist, Singer and Producer, Joel Guzman was born and raised in the state of Washington. Migrating to Texas in 1978, the birthplace of his parents, the first person Joel met upon his arrival was Sarah Fox, who would later become his wife. They found an immediate musical connection and shared similar aspirations. Collaborating with Sarah as a musician and singer-songwriter for more than 30 years, Joel Guzman has successfully pushed the boundaries of Tex-Mex music and the accordion. Together, Guzman and Fox have impacted the Tejano/Conjunto genre of music by blending it with Jazz, Blues, Country, Gospel, Folk, Latin Rock, adding elements of Cumbia and Salsa. While respecting tradition, this innovative and dynamic couple may be in the process of redefining American popular music to become more inclusive of ethnic influences, while allowing Latin music to evolve within the American mainstream. - Accordion Americana / Christa T.

Bio
Joel Guzman and Sarah Fox front the band Los Aztex, a Latin rock outfit that combines World music with Blues, and Latin Rock. Fox's singing style and Joel’s cross-genre accordion playing allows the band to play at festivals such as the Rhythm and Roots Festival on the East Coast to the Accordion Festivals on the West Coast. Los Aztex features Sarah Fox on vocals, Chris Mosley and Joel Gabriel on electric guitar players, Brannen Temple on drums, Angel Roman on electric bass, and Guzman on Accordion and keyboards. However, Guzman says, “I may play a box, but I don't want to be put in one.” Guzman describes the band's style as Latin R&B – more specifically, a hybrid of Latin music with American rock and blues. That, of course, is simplifying things a bit. One blogger at letspolka.com called Guzman “probably the best three-row diatonic player in the country,” and added, “he can play anything from traditional Mexican to American Blues and Rock. Guzman and Fox have contributed original compostitions for Indie films such as “Deep in the Heart” and on the award-winning TV documentary, “Split Decision” and most recently the "Crazy Heart" soundtrack, and the Christmas Movie 'Angel Sings' Both Guzman and Fox can be heard on the 1999Grammy-winning 'Los Super Seven' album . Fox duetted with Joe Ely on the Woody Guthrie classic, “Deportee”. Their Los Super Seven participation led to having famed Los Lobos/Super Seven producer Steve Berlin helm their 1999 album, "Short Stories."
