"Music review of E.P beneath the sky JOANovARC"

Based in the U.K., JOANovARC have been playing at various music festivals and clubs throughout Europe to promote their new EP, Beneath the Sky. In their lyrics, they write about real world / contemporary issues rather than the usual vapid pop subject matter. JOANovARC are getting airplay on assorted indie music stations with their sound that is a mixture of classic rock with alternative music sensibilities.

1. Peace of Mind, time … 5:01
Inspirational track that salutes the sacrifice of those who serve. A great number for a halftime show.

2. Sisters, time … 3:57
An arena rock type tune with a somber touch. Lyrics about loss and remembrance.

3. Seeds of Summer, time … 6:25
Too long, but a more upbeat piece, nice guitar work towards the end. Has potential as a commercial soundtrack.

4. K. Fid, time … 3:31
A dark, bluesy riff on top of a tawdry tale of romance gone wrong.

5. Running Away, time … 3:14
Echo of Pat Benatar – We Belong on vocals and intro. Turns into a defiant anthem on its own.

"Go GO festival review 2011"

London based Joan Ov Arc (finalists at Live and Unsigned 2010) gave us a treat with tracks from their new album 'Beneath the Sky'. They play anthemic rock, with a lead guitarist to put Mr Sambora to shame. Whatever you do you must catch this band live.

"Leicester pride"

Joan ov Arc's set of rock n roll songs was a great treat; they played with gusto and were a really great band. Come back to Leicester soon girls, we love what you do!

"Album reviews"

JoanovArc hail from Stevenage here in the UK. Well I knew Stevenage had a half decent soccer team that play in one of the lower leagues of English Football. But it seems that the town has a more than half decent band of musicians too, and what's more they are all girls to please fans of the genre. Now after that little chit chat, what about the music on this five track offering? Totally mind blowing, and it is no wonder that this band has been recently gigging on the European mainland. All the tracks are of a high calibre alternative rock style, with catchy melodies galore. 'Running Away' kinda reminds me of Kelly Clarkson, while 'Sisters' is one of those numbers that gets trapped in your head and won't go away. This is a pretty damn good effort, and I would like to hear more from this band. Check them out at their reverbnation.8.75/10 (Dave)

"EP review"

Having caught a recent show by grrl-rock veterans of the London circuit Joanovarc at the Bowery in Soho, I was suitably impressed by their “Donna’s gone grunge” live show to take a chance and pick up their new EP for a fiver afterwards.

And y’know what? I’m quite glad I did. Joanovarc are a good example of a group who’ve taken quite an obvious set of ingredients but mixed them up a bit to give them a sound which is fairly unique among their peers on the London circuit. As mentioned earlier, imagine if the Donnas had grown up listening to Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam rather than Twisted Sister and Motley Crue – this is guitar driven rock ‘n’ roll with good solid tunes and musicianship which is serious without being po-faced and pogoable without being desending into cliche.

Joanovarc aren’t afraid to try and broaden their horizons a bit either as evidenced by the keyboards and strings thrown in to give ”Peace of Mind” a bit of extra atmosphere or the pop-punk rush of “Running Away” while the vitriolic anti-paedophilia assault of “K Fid” shows they’re willing to tackle sensitive lyrical subjects other bands would probably shy away from. The highlight though is the six-minute epic closer “Seeds Of Summer” which you can imagine working well as an awesome set-closer live.

All in all, a good effort. They may have been around on the scene for a few years now but it’s clear Joanovarc aren’t letting that extra experience go to waste. “Beneath The Sky” is well worth a listen.

"Track of the day"

JOANovARC are an all girl band from London, who’ve just released a new EP. They provide the latest Track Of The Day. Check out all Tracks Of The Day here.
The band are Sam Walker (vocals/bass), Shelley Walker (lead guitar/vocals), Laura Ozholl (rhythm guitar/vocals) and Deborah Wildish (drums). Their sound is stylish powerful and certainly has a direct lineage to Girlschool and Rock Goddess. In fact, there’s a strong case for saying that this quartet are the natural successors to those two bands.

"Classic Rock’s New Releases Round-Up"

All girl band JOANovARC have made huge strides with Beneath The Sky (AJR). This EP shows that the band are moving firmly towards Girlschool territory, and this band might well be their natural successors. Everything is in place musically on the debut EP, and given a little luck JOANovARC will be a force to be reckoned with.

The girls hail from London and the Home Counties and have built up their strong musicianship and strong representation of women in rock through performances worldwide. JOANovARC have combined influences from Motorhead, Metallica, Joan Jett, AC/DC, Led Zepplin, the Foo fighters and Kings of Leon to create their own unique sound.
