Bio
Canadian alt-country singer/songwriter Jessica Ireland composes lyrical music that sings of love, loss, hope and discovering the world. The colorful textures of her voice and her conversational style spin the soulful adventures of her life into eloquent stories that bring people together in celebration of their shared journey. Her improvisational guitar technique and command over her vocal instrument as well as her belief in the energizing power of a well-written song to captivate the heart all combine into energetic, intimate performances and recordings that skillfully connect melody and rhythm to lyrics and raw emotion. Her talent at fusing elements of folk, bluegrass and pop into well-written songs demonstrates that she has been inspired along the way by timeless poets, storytellers and artists such as Leonard Cohen, Patty Griffin, The Dixie Chicks, The Avett Brothers and Neil Young.
Jessica has always felt at home with authentic music capable of overtaking her emotions. Growing up in a family overflowing with musicians piqued her curiosity in songwriting and performing. She began voice and piano lessons at age three, easily warming up to the process of setting her deepest feelings to music and seeking to create music that makes people think, feel, dance and wonder. Her love of challenging herself by exploring new dimensions through music drew her to banjo and guitar as she continued to develop her own voice as an artist and learn about the craft of writing music and lyrics.
Now, Jessica Ireland continues her voyage as a songwriter as she creates fresh songs and delights audiences in her hometown and beyond through frequent live shows. In 2011, she won a contest through the KX96 New Country FM radio station in Ontario and recorded and released a single and an accompanying video. Love Is Enough was produced by Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) Award-winning producer Mike Francis (Shania Twain, Alanis Morissette) and has been played on KX96 and other Canadian country radio stations. Each summer, Jessica also busks around downtown Toronto, making new friends and taking requests. She is currently writing songs for her debut album, which will release in 2015.
