Jermiside & L-Marr The Star — the hip-hop duo originally from Ohio — both achieved successful solo careers before teaming up to create their newest project: God Bless the Child on HiPNOTT Records.
Released in December 2016, the EP is an incredibly strong project comprised of only six tracks. With varied subject matter spanning from love, loss, fatherhood and the state of Ohio itself, God Bless the Child is a perfect way to end — and begin — the year. With dense beats and positive content, God Bless the Child stands out in part due to it’s extremely confident and inspirational delivery. Projects like God Bless the Child revive the spirit of soulful hip-hop capable of delivering an educational approach while still sounding fresh.
Ahead of the God Bless the Child release, Jermiside and L-Marr The Star took the time to speak about the project, their homestate of Ohio and the current landscape of unity across humanity. - Matteo Urella

Bio
With the God Bless the Child EP, we’re delivering a project that is very important to us for many reasons. For Jermiside, this project is very different from his most recent solo efforts. And for me, L-Marr… this EP serves as my reintroduction into the hip hop arena with a theme that is very special to me. God Bless the Child has a positive message for a new generation of youth which we feel especially strong about given the many negative issues affecting our community today.
If you are reading this overview, chances are you are already a believer of Jermiside and/or L-Marr the Star and we're grateful for your support!
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Jermiside got into hip-hop in the late 80’s/early 90’s during the “Golden Era”. Taking queues from groups such as Stetsasonic, X-Clan, A Tribe Called Quest and Wu-Tang Clan, his entry point was video shows like Rap City, Yo! MTV Raps and Video Jukebox. He began carving out his niche in the Hip Hop game in 2003 with self-produced, self released projects like the 7 inch vinyl record, NP45 Vol. 1 and The Biology Of Kingship, which received favorable reviews locally and nationally in addition to sparking international interest. As a performer he has worked hard to develop his unique lyrical flow. As a founding member of the Lessondary Crew (Che Grand, Tanya Morgan, Elucid, Spec Boogie, A Brother Named George and others), he has worked hard to perfect his production skills, develop his ear for samples and create lyrics that showcase his musical knowledge. Over the years he has appeared on tracks alongside Tanya Morgan, Ill Poetic, Soulstice and a number of other underground artists.
I'm L-Marr the Star. While currently a proud resident of the ATL, I'm always reppin it for my hometown, the Gem City, AKA Dayton, Ohio. As a new breed of MC, my goal is to combine witty rhyme with inspired storytelling and masterfully crafted music that will cause my fans to pause, ponder and consider how they can make a difference in their lives and the lives of others. Born and raised with a backpacker mentality and a love for classic hip hop, I started out writing raps in elementary school and it became a creative outlet for me. In 2008, recognizing that hip hop was, and still is, unique in its power to shift the mindset of youth around the world, I made the journey from southwest Ohio to the ATL in search of fame, fortune and Hip Hop respect! In the decade since my arrival in Black Hollywood, I’ve written and recorded hundreds of tracks and released two EPs, Smallville and The Abundant Life.
The first time we met each other was in Ohio at a hip hop show. We lost contact not too long after that initial meeting, and then in the early 2000’s, by pure coincidence we reconnected at the A3C Hip Hop Festival & Conference, having both moved down to Atlanta the same year.
We created the God Bless the Child EP to counteract the negative messages currently being pushed in the mainstream and to inspire the next generation to pursue their dreams. Our goal is to create music that resonates with our generation and speak to the youth as well.
Release date for this project is on track for December 2, 2016 courtesy of the Hipnott label.
God bless you and God Bless the Child!
Peace,
Jermiside and L-Marr the Star
