Jen was born with music in her DNA. Her grandfather was in a jazz and ragtime band in Florida. He played the saxophone, banjo, guitar and piano. In her early childhood, she listened to him playing piano and spent a good deal of time experimenting herself. At five, all she wanted for Christmas was a keyboard.
She started studying classical guitar at the age of twelve. A quick learner, her first guitar performance was at a student recital for the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society a year after she began playing guitar. She went on to study classical guitar at the Hartt School of Music under Allen Spriestersbach.
While in college, she became disillusioned with the academia tied to classical music and wanted nothing more than to be an artist. The led to a period of musical gestation where she put the guitar to rest for a while and sought out new sources of inspiration.
Eventually, her own music started coming to her in waves. Melodies and lyrics started to form in her head and they wouldn't leave her alone. After witnessing an inspiring performance by Liam Finn, she returned to the guitar with a paper and pen determined to give form to her art.
She is currently performing her new music throughout the Philadelphia area and studying voice under Tina Shafer in NYC.
