Bio
After 11 years of playing mainly guitar and violin, Jekks decided to expand his knowledge of musical instruments. Starting with african Djembe by building his own and taking lessons from Guinea's best players and teachers put a solid grounding under his feet to move onto sitar, dombra, dilruba, oud and flutes. Study and practise and a need for something more diverse musically birthed the idea for Jekks and The Priests of Heka. A conceptual world music electronic band that brings eclectic beats, catching melodies and brain tingling solos.
After realising the idea for 'the priests' Jekks set about to form the band, starting as a three piece acoustic roots group they release a live album, recorded on the first jam, featuring djembes, bass guitar and sitar all performed in the tight confines of jekks' old bedroom. The lineup then expanded to include an electric guitar, so naturally the djembes tranformed into a drumkit and amplified the sitar with the release of another live album Lakshana EP.
A golden oportunity happened in the early months of 2011, Southern Oracle needed some bands to fill the lineup and 'the priests' stepped up to perform, only this time with a twist. Keeping with the ever evolving sound Jekks decided it was time that the group incorporated ableton into the music, this provided 'The Priests' with a stepping stone to perform at countless parties and festivals throughout 2011 including Earth Freq, Underground Resistance, Wattlewedo, Earth Frequency, Connexus and Harmonize aswell as in and around brisbane weekly. Jekks is currently working on a full length album and plans to tour through 2012 and 2013.
