MAY 7,2008, PEARL, MISS. - A little more than a decade after 38 year-old Mississippian Jeff Maddox started writing songs, the musicain/songwriter has a deal with Coral Gables, Fla.,-based record label Echo-Vista, and he is ready for the upcoming release of a 16-song CD of his original songs, "That's What Love Does."
Maddox's journey from Mississippi to Music City began when he recorded a CD of some of his original songs in 2006.
Jeffrey Collins, president of Echo-Vista and the Echo-Fuego Group, heard Maddox's CD, and , despite the genre differences between his record label and Maddox's music, Collins liked Maddox's original songs so much that he signed Maddox to his Echo-Vista record label. Echo-Vista, a division of entertainment giant Koch Entertainment, had historically been an R&B and hip-hop label. Maddox's music is pure country.
Collins has nothing but praise for Maddox's project. "Here is a 'country' album with a full array of songs for fans of all ages. Jeff Maddox sings directly from his heart about love, heartache and everyday people, in a beautiful tone, deep sincerity, and along with a touch of comedy that can only bring joy to all those that are fortunate enough to own and listen over and over again to this wonderful CD," Collins said.
And Collins is not alone in his praise for Maddox.
Razzy Bailey, a Nashville, Tenn., multi-hit songwriter and producer whose accomplishments include 13 No. 1 hit songs and 30 top 10 hit songs on country and crossover genre charts, had this to say about Maddox and his debut CD, "That's What Love Does":
"Lots of music is made in Music City, but there's little that has that down-home feeling you can believe in. When my long-time musician and producer friend, Gary "Brotherman" Branchaud, brought his production of Jeff Maddox over for me to enjoy, I became an instant fan. I've written songs for 50 years -- and still do, but it is seldom, once again, to hear any real talented, 'down-home' music written from the heart, as only those gifted writers like Jeff can create. Buy this music for yourself and enjoy!" Bailey said.
