The Riot Radio Showcase lived up to its expectations, this past Saturday night. With a fair-sized crowd and a solid line up of local musicians, the night went as planned. Unlike most pub nights, Saturday night was an evening of music and early celebration for Assistant station manager at the Riot Radio, Lee Clifford. “A lot of time and money went into planning this event, but I think it was worth it,” said Clifford. “Basically my plan was to throw a concert and bring in some new local bands and musicians, rather than the same old stuff we hear again and again at every other pub night,” he said. The night started off with a few local bands, including Free the Future, Aberdeen and Kessel Run, who put on a great show to start off the night. They were followed by J-CLX, The Riot’s artist of the month in February. The music was unique and definitely a change from the typical sounds blasting over the speakers every Wednesday pub night. With his soulful styling of hip hop and R&B, J-CLX is able to find a way to send out a positive message of worship and health, without turning his music into a sentimental worship ballad. “I’m showing them my creative side through my music, and to spread my message of life: live it to its fullest and be healthy in every area,” he said. J-CLX will be joining other Christian musicians in the upcoming Extreme Tour this summer, with venues in the U.S. and Mexico. As the night advanced, the venue began to fill up and the energy was on the rise as Hello Beautiful took the stage at 10:30, and put on a great show. Even thought the show took place on a Saturday night, the turnout was respectable. Considering this was still part of Durham College’s reading week, the night turned out to be was a success. “Despite the low turnout, the bands all seemed to have a great time, and our guests all said they enjoyed the night,” said Clifford. The music continued far into the night, as DJ Jay, the house DJ every Wednesday; spun some tracks immediately after the show. Doors closed at 2 a.m. - The Chronicle

The artist known as J-CLX is no stranger when it comes to catchy hooks, heartfelt lyrics and high energy performances. He began his career as a hip hop artist in 2003 and thats when his passion was born and fused into a sound that can only be labelled as truely unique. Though in the early stages of his career, in 2004 he was awarded a VideoFact grant for his club hit single “Hands Up”, which recieved regular rotation on MuchVibe. However around this time J-CLX was at a crossroads. His video was gaining great exposure, his songs were being played on popular local radio stations such as, 89.5 FM and 88.1 FM. Yet he was faced with a life changing decision, he realized that the music he was making promoted negativity and was filled with coarse language and that he couldn't live his life like this any longer.
He scrapped his entire album and stopped promoting his music in order to pursue a true relationship with Jesus Christ and bring a positive message for a dying generation. In 2006 he was back in the studio with a brand new sound, ready to unleash his passion and his story of encouragement into the hearts of youth eveywhere. With out the help of his former manager/producer Jermaine James, J-CLX has found himself co-producing his own songs.
In 2008 he was off to a fresh start with the support of Riot radio, J-CLX can often be heard in the halls of Durham College. This is also where he was featured as February's 2008 artist of the month and was awarded first place for the 2008 Songs Revealed Songwriting Contest which aired on Rogers TV across the Durham region.
J-CLX has already begun to go intertnational with his acceptance on to the 2008 Extreme Tour, which has gained him exposure along the east coast of the U.S. He has also been declared as The 2008 UK Songwriting winner for the urban category. With his award for Best Hip Hop Arist at the 2008 Ontario Independent Music Awards it is evident that J-CLX is an artist who continues to grow more and more with each day.
