Mzj: Tell me a little bit about Jayy Just.
Jayy: I was born Jazsmin Douglas right here in Houston. I lived in Fort Wayne, Indiana for a few
years, Taiwan from 2009-2010 to study, and now in Beaumont studying at Lamar University.
All these moves made me love traveling and appreciate other cultures.

Judgmental as it might seem, when we received an email suggesting JayyJust, a bilingual femcee whose second language somehow happens to be Mandarin, for Artist of the Week, our initial thought was: "Oh, a girl rapper who raps in Mandarin? Cool. Go ahead and kill us now."
But, as these things tend to work out, JayyJust ended up being more than not terrible, she ended up being talented. And cool. And not gimmicky. And dance-tastic. And radio-ready. And just generally an interesting act, musically.

One day as I walked through Herman Park, I heard music blaring from a car. I usually don’t pay attention to things while walking because it is my time to meditate, but this particular song struck me. I heard Chinese and English vocals on a pop beat. It was amazing! I stopped and asked the couple standing next to the car who the artist was, and they said, “JayyJust”. The name of the song is Dance Floor.

Bio
JayyJust, born Jazsmin Douglas, is the new face of Hip Hop and Mandopop (Hip Hop/Pop in Mandarin Chinese). What started out as a fundraiser for college tuition rekindled her love and passion for music and performing... and she is seriously turnin' heads.
In just a short time she has been dubbed the "Next International Superstar" by Ethnic Now, and was featured as "Artist of the Week" by Houston's top entertainment magazine the Houston Press.
There are no boundaries with this young star as she channels her Asian alter ego MiiMii and set the international music scene a blaze. Her first Mandopop single "Dance Floor" hit the Music Forte world indie chart at #11 and held it's spot for over eight weeks.
JayyJust has been speaking Chinese for over five years and studied for a year in Taiwan at the Miaoli County Yuanli High School. She is also the co-coordinator for TECO's Taiwan Alumni Scholarship Association, and strives to bring cultures together through music and education.
JayyJust is the new face of Hip Hop and Mandopop, and no one does it better.
