When you think Janna Mercedes, you think pop rock, influenced by jazz, and an atmosphere that says soul.
What you hear is an arresting sound, almost sweet, that sweeps you up into an experience of the soul.
Janna has been performing around her hometown of Darwin, Australia for several years, although her musical journey began in Perth. She displays versatility being able to perform as a solo artist and also with her band. In either case, she holds her own as a musician and songwriter, captivating her audience with the sound she creates.
Her performing experience dates back to her early teens when she began playing with her church band. Since then she has played fundraising benefits, National Youth Week events, the Darwin Festival, and Darwin’s biggest musical event BASSINTHEGRASS. In between these come sets at the indie music venues around town.
Several tracks from her debut EP are regularly played on Darwin's Rhema FM (97.7FM Darwin).
She continually looks forward, integrating new styles into her playing, always looking for the next awesome lyric, and creating a sound to match it. Never really one for playing covers, she has too much of her own to let out, but she readily admits infl uences from a wide range of artists - Coldplay, John Mayer, Norah Jones, Foo Fighters, Van Morrison, Missy Higgins, Maroon 5 - and that’s just a few.
With the release of her EP, simply named Janna, she is on her way. The EP is almost an album with 8 tracks from a full sound to clear, spacey piano and vocals. The music invites, and the words connect; what she sings is the way we’ve felt, because she’s seen life and cries for help like the rest of us would like to. Janna Mercedes. Discover for yourself.
