Bio
James Collin is an instrumental musician and composer based in Chicago IL. His style ranges from ambient electronic to blues, rock and even classical genres, although a sense of minimalism pervades most of his work.
As a youth he first picked up the piano, principally instructed by Franciscan nuns, then promptly forgot most of his teachings. The next instrument to strike his fancy was trumpet, upon entering middle school. He quickly progressed to guitar and voice, as any good lad should, helped by his fellow troublemakers throughout high school. He attended Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and then Michigan State University, where he briefly studied music theory and joined the glee club. All through these years, James Collin co-wrote and performed with several local bands.
James is influenced by numerous artists and genres, chiefly minimalists and jazz musicians, as well as more recent, popular artists. His work carries very cinematic and emotional qualities and seems to tell stories and paint pictures with harmony and melody.
He has performed live, either solo or with an ensemble, on several occasions, at coffee shops, art galleries, basements and venues within the great state of Michigan.
James Collin resides in Chicago, IL and performs live with friends in the area.
